Cafetería Rocablanca — Restaurant in Madrid

We came here at around lunch time and it was half full inside. Their English here isn't very good so be warned when trying to enter. They try their best to help you which is nice. You order at the bar and pick it up at the bar. You can sit wherever you like basically.

We ordered fried croquettes, potato omelet, churros and tomato toast. The churros were our second favourite in Madrid. They weren't hot out of the frier but they were crispy and addictive. The tomato toast was a pass - nothing amazing and didn't have enough garlic. The croquettes came out piping hot. Nice and crispy. The potato omelet was also served cold but it went really well with the bread. I would imagine it was very delicious if it was hot.

I would come back to try the other things on the menu as their menu is so big. They have lots of things that you could enjoy as snacks. A lot of locals come here and not a lot of tourists...

Vinimos a conocer sus famosas croquetas que había visto por redes y salimos muy sorprendidos. La relación calidad-precio es buenísima y otro detalle fundamental, aunque no tienen servicio en mesa, el personal muy amable. Empezaré destacando que Rocablanca es un “bareto” de los de antes (al entrar parece que te teletransportas y ya no estás en la calle Fuencarral), en cuanto a su decoración y la oferta gastronómica. Sin “pijadas” ni lujos, es famoso por sus croquetones, pero la carta ofrece todos los básicos: platos combinados, bocadillos/sandwiches, hamburguesas y algunas raciones. Cada croqueta cuesta 1.80€, hay que pedir mínimo 2, pero se puede elegir cualquier sabor. Por los carteles del bar vimos que antes había de chuletón de buey, pero ahora esa opción no está disponible y tienen 4. Probamos todas. Cada croqueta es bastante grande y nos dio para compartir entre 3 personas. Gambas al ajillo. Fue la primera que comimos y la que más nos gustó. El sabor a gambas es muy potente y no resulta artificial. Como todas las croquetas, tiene trocitos dentro, de gambas en este caso. Buenísima y con un sabor ligeramente picante por el ajo. Su consistencia es cremosa sin resultar densa. Carrillera al Pedro Ximenez. Tiene un gusto a pimiento y trozos de la carne melosa. La bechamel queda teñida por la carne y el PX. Bastante rica y cremosa, fue la segunda que más nos gustó. Queso cabrales. Esta fue más densa, pero el sabor es muy equilibrado ya que el sabor del queso no es demasiado potente. Nos gustó pero es más aburrida por no tener ningún trocito en su interior. De jamón. Está rica y cumple pero fue la que menos nos emocionó. También fue menos cremosa. Me sorprendió porque visualmente las croquetas estaban bastante aceitosas, de no haberlas escurrido suficientemente, pero en boca no nos resultaron pesadas. Y el aceite debía estar bastante nuevo. No sé si tuvimos suerte o tienen buenas prácticas de higiene, pero detalle MUY a valorar. Por último, probamos el pincho de tortilla. Por 3.90€ me pareció algo caro, ya que es un pincho bastante estándar y el pan roza el aprobado. En el interior está más desecha aunque los bordes estaban bastante cuajados. De sabor está rica, con buen punto de sal y el dulzor de la cebolla. Como decía, no hay servicio a mesa y se pide en barra. Pero son muy amables. Con las bebidas nos dieron un aperitivo de patatas con salsa bravioli. El local está bastante limpio. Nos salió todo a 5€ por persona. Una maravilla en plena calle Fuencarral. ¡Super recomendable probar...

Neighborhood bar with good food choices. The tortilla breakfast (1 portion of tortilla that's easily double of a regular one + coffee) for 4.25€ is huge and the omelette was so fresh and juicy (served at room temperature-cold though). We also ordered a mixto sandwich with egg on top for 3ish € and it was buttery and tasty, with semi melted cheese and a nice sunny side up.

Self service (they leave your dishes at the bar for you to grab) but that's fine. They have good looking massive croquetas too, min order of 2 for 1.1€ each, but didnt try since I was having breakfast! Would love...
