Cafeteria El Chico — Restaurant in Madrid

Local spot with good coffee, beer, and sandwiches. I highly recommend the churros which come with delicious melted chocolate. I had a sandwich with jamon and tomatoes (a popular lunch time sandwich in Spain) which was perfect and warm. I wanted to try a pizza too but they were already sold out!

The staff were friendly and accommodating to my novice Spanish. They were quick and great at pouring pints too! Lots of locals were inside and ordering at the counter, but the staff are fair and good at managing the queue.

Great little cafe, the baguette was soft and toasted to perfection. The veal had a great flavor and cooked just right. Great breakfast or lunch stop for a light meal. The tortillas while very tasty and we would order again, are not the same as what people from the US or Mexico are used to. We stumbled on this by chance and we were very pleased to be the only tourists. It was full of locals at lunch. Fast service, very kind, and the food was nothing fancy but delicious.
