Cantina Canalla Antracita - Restaurante Mexicano — Restaurant in Madrid

I've come here several times over the last 3 years and have always raved about the place to all my friends. The food, drinks and service have always been excellent and i love the decor and vibe. It's been several months since my last visit but I came tonight with some visitors, one who has been before on a previous trip, and we were really disappointed. The menu looked different (maybe style but seemed like different options, i cant be 100% sure) the portion sizes were significantly smaller and the bill was higher than ever. I know the prices are due to the economy in general but when our "large" nachos arrived at the table, I was a bit embarassed. Before they were always served in a big bowl piled high, colourful and delicious....today on a small sad looking platter. They were ok - standard - But nothing like they used to be. They were advertised as with chicken, which as we had one vegetarian, we asked to be removed (which was done with no hesitation or issue, which I know can sometimes be the case) but i cant imagine that request alone would have changed the appearance so much. The staff were, as always, very friendly and accommodating, especially as we bought a dog with us. And the frozen margaritas were a winner! Drinks - excellent Food - good Service - terrible

I've been twice during peak time - so I can't speak for the normal service during the week. One of the two waiters that seems to work during peak time (would exponentially improve the experience if they'd hire an extra set of hands during weekends and holidays) is quite rude - we tried to order more food and got weird excuses from both. One waiter tried to sit us at the smallest table in the worst location (next to the door - can't be legal) even though I made a reservation and there were two other open two person tables available. Basic customer service and sense is severely lacking. My Spanish partner was fuming.

The menu is okay, doesn't have many options, and the taco options are a bit ridiculous - the only option is to order six? Why not make it three? If you're not sharing that's insane. I'd like to see more taco options or have more options included in the variety of tacos option and see those options on the menu and vice versa. I don't think the menu includes standard options like quesadillas; definitely not something traditional like chilaquiles. When waiting for food and drink it would be nice to be given some tortilla chips and salsas to munch on as a courtesy.

With a few tweaks, can easily be a four or five...

Wow !!! As someone who’s been there over 20 times since 2019 , I cannot express my disappointment. What a negative change to the chain ! The margaritas are very weak and basically just sugar - despite the waiter saying they haven’t changed the mix ) - I can guarantee they have. Menu - far more basic / tasteless even/ less options …. You can tell it’s run by a corporate …. Look up enchiladas to see what they are supposed to look like! Now their enchiladas are basically tacos with tasteless chicken covered in cheese & onion !! Place went from my favorite restaurant where I celebrated my birthday to me never to return !!! Used to be packed ….
