Circo de las Tapas — Restaurant in Madrid

Went there before 8 pm and was asked to come back at eight as the kitchen didn’t commence service prior to eight. I was then informed that there were no tables free. While waiting at the bar, I was asked to sit in a corner chair in the corridor and they didn’t even take drinks order. Then I was given no service whatsoever. After waiting another half an hour, I was getting cross as none of the waiters were taking any order from me. I went to the counter to get some service and they were least interested. A young chap manning the register claimed that he had only two hands when I asked why they would not take my order. I promptly left. Very arrogant and indifferent staff. Mediocre experience. The Saturday paella came out burnt (note: I know paella is supposed to have a crust at the bottom, but this one came burnt), the salad was underwhelming, the pimientos with beef was just ok… As for the service, the staff (2 people tending all tables and bar) is friendly, but overwhelmed and overworked - not their fault, of course, and the owner should be ashamed of the situation. At the end, we spent €25 per person for lunch when the value was more about €15. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place - a pity, since they used to have great food at...

Food is 5 stars, service is 1 star. Stuffed peppers , mussels and prawns absolutely gorgeous but came 25 minutes after the croquettes and it seemed like they were understaffed so can’t really blame the waitresses, however only one waitress seemed capable of smiling. Cheer up you could be having to sell bangles and carved elephants for a living like the bloke who interrupted our meal half way...
