We had just arrived in Madrid. We took a walk to the Plaza, then Sabatini Gardens, the palace and then went to el Mercado San Miguel. The market was elbow to elbow tourists, and we were not eager to go into that mess. So we walked down a street. About a half a block down is a restaurant with some outdoor tables. We sat down. A charming young woman came out to take our drink order. Paola was her name. It was past the lunch rush so she wasn't too busy to chat. We didn't know much about Spanish food so she suggested she just bring out some tapas. The first thing she brought was the banderillas. They were so delicious. That became something we'd always look for during our entire vacay. After some tapas, we order the bull's tail to share. The meat was so tender, and the sauce, oh dear, the sauce just blew us away. While we were sitting there we saw a man in a chef outfit approach. We called him over. He came by with a big smile, and we asked him about the sauce. Spanish people are so charing. It doesn't matter how busy they are. They are always willing to stop, smile and talk. All in all this was a great restaurant and a great first introduction to Madrid. Our last day in Madrid we wanted to go back to this place, but Precious was exhausting from being a tourist all week so we went to another location two blocks from the hotel that was equally awesome. Great restaurants. Great...
Read moreVery unpleasant experience with one of the servers
I visited this restaurant on October 13th between 4–5 PM, and I was very disappointed with how one of the female servers treated us.
After we finished our meal, we simply asked what “aperitif” meant. She explained that it included bread, olive oil, and tomato soup. We then mentioned that we never received any tomato soup. Suddenly, she walked away without a word, came back quickly, grabbed our original bill, crumpled it in her hand, and threw it onto the table, handing us a new bill with the aperitif charge removed (probably €6 for two).
We were shocked by her aggressive and disrespectful attitude. She didn’t care how her behavior made us feel — just cold and dismissive. As visitors from Korea, it even felt borderline discriminatory. I honestly wonder, would she have acted the same way if I were Western?
All I expected was a simple response like, “Oh, sorry you didn’t get the soup — would you like it now?” or “I apologize for the mistake.” Instead, we were treated rudely for no reason.
This experience sadly ruined the last day of my 10-day trip in Spain. I truly hope the server reflects on her behavior and offers at least a human apology. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect — I am also someone’s...
Read moreHad an extremely unpleasant experience in this establishment. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this just happened to be one of the worst experiences during my time in Madrid.
Not only did they ran out of one, but two dishes. So I had to go with the 3rd choice, which was the oxtail in wine sauce. To be fair, it was one hour before closing time, but from a restaurant with such good reviews and high prices I expect high quality service and food all along.
To my disappointment, the oxtail came out cold. After asking the staff to warm it, I could only hear how the dish was put into the microwave. In addition, the lady behind the bar started cursing in Spanish and talking bad about customers (she might have talked about us). Well, too bad that we did understood every single word she said. Never ever in my life have I been treated to disrespectfully and with such a bad attitude.
After this experience, we left the establishment disappointed and disgusted. Although the waiter in charge was very kind and apologetic, I wouldn't...
