The Arco de Cuchilleros is one of the ten entrances to the Plaza Mayor and is located in the southwest corner of the square. The entrance almost looks like a watchtower due to the height of the entrance. The entrance looks tall because the adjoining street is much lower that the plaza and just like the plaza, the area is very touristy.

In truth, I wasn't that impressed and certainly wouldn't come...

Arco de Cuchilleros, obra del arquitecto madrileño Juan de Villanueva y Montes (1739-1811) que, tras el incendio de la Plaza Mayor (1790), cerró completamente la plaza habilitando varias arcadas (10) para su acceso. Su considerable altura responde al desnivel entre la Plaza Mayor y la antigua calle de la Cava de San Miguel -donde estuvo el foso de la muralla, cegado en 1567-. El nombre responde a los negocios de cuchilleros y espaderos -gremio establecido ya en el s. L'arco di Cuchilleros è opera di Juan de Villanueva, realizzata dopo un incendio nella Plaza Mayor nel 1790, all’epoca completamente chiusa. La Plaza ebbe così una serie di arcate per l'accesso. La notevole altezza di questo arco è dovuto al grande divario tra la Plaza Mayor e il vecchio Cava de San Miguel. L'origine del suo nome è legato alla presenza di costruttori di coltelli che fornivano articoli per la corporazione dei macellai concentrati dentro e intorno alla Plaza Mayor. Ora sia la Plaza Mayor che l'arco e la strada di Cuchilleros sono un importante punto turistico...
