Maximus Haven — Restaurant in Madrid

I was casting about, trying to find a place for supper. Two places in the neighborhood I was visiting were hyped on line but “out of business” when I arrived. I was about to enter a corporate place when I literally turned around and saw Maximu Haven. I was welcomed warmly; no one rolled their eyes when I spoke my bad Spanish; ordered the house speciality (a hearty soup of fish stock, noodles, some squid and some pork pieces. (Onions and hot pepper on the side) and was treated to down home, original cooking with real ingredients/fresh food. Had tea and heavenly fresh cheesecake for desert, and aperitif. Bill was under 30 E. Service was prompt, attentive but not overbearing. I’m the kind of person who likes to chat with staff so got the amazing story of the owner/family, and shared my own.
