Shan Hai City fails to deliver even decent Chinese food, falling well short of the standards expected from any respectable East Asian restaurant. The overall quality issues pervade nearly every dish, creating a disappointing dining experience that suggests fundamental problems in the kitchen.

The dimsum was passable at best - while at least authentic looking in presentation, the dumplings were full of filler with poor quality content that lacked the fresh flavors and proper textures that define good dim sum. These should be a restaurant's showcase, but instead highlighted the kitchen's shortcomings.

The Peking duck was particularly disappointing, arriving cold and not tasty at all. This signature dish requires proper preparation and serving temperature to showcase the crispy skin and succulent meat - both elements were completely absent here, making it a complete failure of execution.

The beef gyudon provided a slight reprieve, proving decent in taste with generous portioning that at least offered value for money. This Japanese-inspired dish showed the kitchen's potential when they focus on simpler preparations. The chicken teriyaki was alright, meeting basic expectations without distinction but avoiding the complete failures seen in other dishes.

Fuimos a este restaurante asiático con un 30% de descuento gracias a The Fork, y la experiencia fue excelente. Nos encantó la comida en general, con una gran variedad de platos, incluyendo opciones poco comunes en los restaurantes asiáticos de Madrid.

No hay que esperar mucho para comer y el sitio es tranquilo.

Uno de los platos más sorprendentes fueron los takoyaki (bolitas de pulpo japonesas), que estaban deliciosas. Es difícil encontrar takoyaki bien hechos en Madrid, pero aquí lograron un sabor auténtico, muy similar a los que se pueden probar en Japón. También probamos los rollitos nem, que nos sorprendieron gratamente por su sabor exótico, diferente al que suelen tener en otros sitios.

El kubab shanghai no nos pareció especialmente destacable, el arroz no tenía una textura crujiente de estar frito, hemos probado versiones mejores. Sin embargo, el gyudon (ternera con arroz) estaba muy rico y merece la pena probarlo. Pero sin duda, el plato estrella para nosotros fue el arroz thai con piña, el mejor que hemos probado. Hemos comido muchas versiones en distintos restaurantes, pero esta nos encantó por su equilibrio de sabores.

En general, los platos tenían sabores muy bien logrados y se notaba la calidad de los ingredientes. Merece la pena probar las sugerencias del chef. Además, un punto positivo es que traen jarra de agua sin problema si no quieres pedir refrescos, cosa que en otros restaurantes a veces ponen pegas.

De postre pedimos un coulant, que estaba correcto, aunque nada del otro mundo. No es su especialidad, pero tampoco fuimos a este sitio por los postres.
