A Meat Lover Falls in Love with Vegan Food
Hear me out: I consider myself a heavy meat eater, but I decided to try Shlen Restaurant (the one in Chamberí) for lunch — and I’m still thinking about the experience.
I had five dishes, and every single one blew me away. I started with the gyozas de edamame y trufa, served with a chili oil that’s packed with flavour. Perfect starter.
Then came the bombas de sabor — and honestly, this dish was a life-changing experience. I highly, highly recommend it. The layers of flavour and texture were just insane. I mean… colour me mind-blown.
Next up were the No Butter, No Chicken con parath and the Pato Pekín. If you’ve ever needed a reason to switch to vegan food, this is it. I’m telling you, you cannot tell the difference — they were so, so good.
And finally, the dosa de patata con salsa de coco. Just… wow. It’s been way too long since I had dosa, and this one was bursting with flavour and surprisingly generous in size.
But above all, it’s the emphasis on taste and quality that’s going to keep me coming back.

The dishes are creative and delicious. It's a mixture of Indian and Spanish specialties. We especially loved the vegan duck, the "bombas de sabor" and the apple gyozas as a dessert. Read moreI went to Shlen with a group of friends. It's a nice cozy restaurant. The pleasant lighting adds to the ambience of the place. You can tell that they are trying to come out of the box there. Traditional Indian recipes have been embellished with their own style; enough to arouse the curiosity of any food enthusiast.
The chef came around as well and served us himself. He was very polite and welcoming. We really appreciated that.
