I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but i feel strongly compelled to call this one out.
This is the worst experience ive ever had in a restaurant. It started ok, we were quickly sat down. Menus came out.
When we ordered our drinks, we were questioned why we would order a particular bottle of wine and the waiter repeatedly tried to upsell us. After the 3rd time of asking and us declining, we stuck with our first pick, but by this time, we had been made to feel substandard and unwelcomed. Do not have drinks on your menu, if you dont want customers to order.
The drinks then came, which were ok and we wanted to order a bit of food, and use the remaining of our spends on drink. This was refused by the staff who insisted everyone needed to order a starter at least despite the booking of the table being at 12am. This didnt really make any sense, but in good faith, we agreed to their request and each ordered a starter.
After about half an hour, the starters arrived. One was missing, so we raised it and they went back to the kitchens. After another half hour, the remaining starter came. This was extremely disappointing seen as though it was them who insisted everyone needed a starter. At this point, we ordered our second round of drinks. Again, this took about half an hour for these to come, yet the waiters kept coming round advising us we needed to spend our min spend... we were trying but the service simply wasnt there. When the drinks did eventually come, a drink we paid €23 was a long glass, with one long ice cube taking up the whole drink. The drink was basically a shot, for €23.
We raised this with the waiter, who immediately raised it with her manager. The manager came over who didnt want to help at all, so we asked to speak to his manager.
At this point, this manager then again didnt want to help, or resolve the situation. A simple apology, explanation and substitute drink would have been absolutely fine. Instead, this manager decided to argue that they dont serve the drinks like that and insinuated that we supplied the ice cube. Funny, that in 25c heat, we could have brought ice cubes into the restaurant, sat there for over an hour for this drink to arrive and then planted this ice cube in the drink. This really infuriated me and i challenged the waiter as we had been really patient, understanding and accommodating. As soon as we raised a problem, they turned it back on us without any accountability. In a place where you pay €10 for a coke, i would expect the staff to treat you with dignity and respect.
The manager offered us a free round of drinks and wanted us to pay the remaining amount of our minimum spend. At this point, i raised we were here for a special occasion, which i'd made them aware of when booking, and despite a number of other tables around us clearly receiving the special occasion treatment, we had not. I advised the standard had been substandard and we wouldnt be paying the remaining amount towards our minimum spend spends. They agreed to leave it there, finish our drinks and leave. They then asked us not to leave a bad review as this would look bad on the restaurant. Hilarious.
We couldnt have picked a worse place to go and they totally ruined a special occasion. Please save your money and do not visit...
Read moreWhen I first went to Coya Marbella for my daughters birthday we had an awful experience.
We had booked for 4 people 3 weeks in advance but when we arrived we had to wait outside for 10 minutes and then we had to sit around a table for 2 people laid out with only 3 places!
The service was shocking, probably the worst I have ever encountered and the staff were rude. We were rushed to order and upsold everything, it was all very vulgar and I wouldn’t expect to be treated this way when spending so much money €980!
The place itself is aesthetically very nice but there the food was really average at best and extremely overpriced. I have being going to the Puento Romano for over 25 years and have no issues paying for good food, good service and great ambience but this is truly terrible and very surprising for the Puento who normally only have great restaurants.
We were pushed off our table rudely after 2hrs without even finishing our drinks as the waiter didn’t even bother to pour them or look after us.
I never usually complain and didn’t on this evening as I didn’t want to spoil my daughters birthday any more that it had, but I did send the restaurant a private message afterwards for which I did receive a reply with an apology and was told it doesn’t usually happen and to come back and we would receive 50% discount and have a better experience.
So we decided to give it another try with friends and couldn’t believe it when this time it was even worse than before. On arrival we had to wait again outside, after almost 10 minutes we were shown to our table but told rudely that we must be off it within 2 hrs, I asked does that include the 10 minutes we have been waiting but to no reply.
The waiter was nicer and not rude but the service was again terrible. They just want to rush you in and out and we were asked to order all courses at once as they would take 40 minutes each to prepare, then all were served within 10 minutes together which is not what we wanted.
Before finishing our food we has someone come over and tell us to hurry up as we needed to be off the table. We went without drinks as they take the wine away but then do not serve it. The food was well below average again and the mains went cold before we finished the starters as all served together.
Then we had the manager come over but not to apologise but to again push us off the table and recommend we go to La Plaza, we didn’t have time for a desert and were again extremely unhappy.
High prices! Below average food! Pushy and rude staff! Rushed in and out and treated badly! Entertainment is almost non existent! Ambience average! Terrible service!!!
I can’t see this place being open next year and would recommend you save your time and money and go to one of the many other amazing restaurants that both the Puento Romano and Marbella...

Katalin was not just a waitress; she was a gracious host who went above and beyond to ensure our evening was perfect. Her professionalism and friendliness were evident from the start. She took the time to introduce herself, making us feel welcomed and valued as patrons.
