I have a severe wheat allergy, that causes anaphylaxis, so I have to take great care when eating out. I asked about the vegetable soup whether there was anything in there that had gluten, the waitress went to check came back and said it was just vegetables and water. I then asked about the lamb main dishes and asked her to check whether flour was used in any of the marinades. When my soup arrived I started eating it and then after about 5 spoons I found myself eating a short piece of spaghetti, I then looked at the soup and discovered that there were quite a number of short strands of spaghetti in the soup. I called the waitress over and she tried to suggest that no it was just a vegetable, I said I am certain this is pasta, so she said she would check. The manager came over and said that it was spaghetti and I would be better with fish soup. I said to him I had been really clear that I had an allergy and could not eat gluten, he said yes he had spoken to the staff in the kitchen and gave a vague apology. i did stay for the lamb chops because they were just chargrilled with no sauce or marinade so the risk was low. The lamb chops were really nice. My sister had the ravioli and she said it was really bland. The bill arrived and the soup had been removed, which I would expect because I couldn’t eat it. I don’t like to post negative reviews but when restaurants have such poor understanding of allergies and are so blasé about it this is so dangerous, I carry epi pens but I do everything to avoid eating wheat so I don’t have to use them. I hope The Red Pepper learn from my visit and feedback and are more...
Read morePopped in here on a busy Saturday night in June. We were a party of 8 however booking was not necessary as luckily the friendly staff were able to conjoin two tables for us. Between us, we ordered the moussaka, lamb shanks, chicken stroganoff, spaghetti, grilled turbot, house salads and halloumi - everyone without fail cleared their plates as each meal was really delicious and fresh. The portions were ample and good value compared to other restaurants in the vicinity. All the staff were lovely and always smiling. All in all, we had a good night and...
Read moreWe popped in here for a family meal yesterday and to be totally honest the food was extremely plain… I think we set our expectations way too high considering it was right on the front spot we expected better.… The staff were pleasant and they were quite accommodating, even when I asked them to take a family photo.. If they had a better Chef the place would be packed solid and it would be difficult to get a table due to its location… Would we go back again ? Nope,...
