We came across this by accident, and we are glad we did. Most of the cafes in the area offer a selection of fried fast food, but not here.
After looking at the menu, we decided to have the Canarian tapas for two at a price of 22 euros. This is about a third cheaper than the options available on the seafront.
We also had two large local beers each to wash it down. Whilst we were waiting, we saw other dishes coming out; all were well presented and looked tasty!
When the tapas came, it was well presented. It included canarian potatoes and sauce, pardon peppers, onion rings (a local favourite the world over), hot figs with an almond inside wrapped in cured meat (our favourite). There was also a good helping of two types of cured cold meat and fish croquettes.
It was very tasty and good to have a change from our usual eat out diet.
If you squint, you can see the sea.
The cafe is frequented by what appears to be the local Nordic clientele, as is the whole area.
All in all, it was a great experience with tasty food...
Read moreReview with an Update: A really nice local bar, cafe and restaurant. The waiter is super friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Local prices, lovely food and drink. Essential if you’re in arguineguin.
update * I’ve now been to this GREAT little ‘locals bar’ a few times, every coffee and plate of food has been really great. The bar owner is proud to tell you that he selects the chicken fillets and coats them by hand himself for his crispy chicken strips, they are really great. I’ve also had the ‘fish and chips’, not like British fish and chips, they are fillet strips in a superb super-light breaded coating. Total heaven, not heavy at all. Beer is standard, coffee great. You can’t go wrong here. Beware other cafes in Arguineguin that look the same, but it’s all frozen food. This place is different. Can’t wait...
We stumbled on to this place last year and loved it. We decided to see if it was as good as we remembered. IT IS. We ordered a crispy slices of aubergine layered between local goat cheese topped with local dark Canarian honey. It was fabulous. We followed with baked cheese from La Palma drenched in honey from that island. The smokey taste of the cheese with the slightly bitter sweetness of the honey was delicious. We finished with shrimp with mushrooms and garlic topped with Serrano jamon. The ham gave a lift to the traditional dish. The service was quick and pleasant. The prices were a pleasant surprise. Karile 2 is worth a detour if you want something above the regular Canarian...
