Very surprised by the good reviews as the food was pretty dire. Not trying to slate this place but wanted to at least warn others. Maybe we just got them on a bad night or ordered the wrong stuff?? This place is on the slightly cheaper end of the scale for the area but the food was just not up to scratch. The smoked salmon salad (El Pescador) was a massive disappointment. Sounded fab and I ordered for mains. Was served with plain cooked salmon, not smoked salmon (literally two pieces) and the asparagus in it was tinned and tasted and revolting. It resembled more of a soup with the gallons of dressing on it. We also ordered the chicken schnitzel that was drowned in oil. Either the oil wasn’t hot enough or it was from frozen but it wasn’t crisp at all and a bit soggy. Cheeseburger was rated as being decent so that’s a winner and the two portions of sole we ordered were very very average at best. Chips were soggy and old. Even the garlic bread with cheese turned up without cheese and was sent back to appear a few minutes later with some semi-melted white packet cheese on it. All in all sad to have to leave a negative review but it honest and I hope the owner takes note as it’s in a great spot and could be so...
Read moreWe went for a dinner because of all the great reviews. Remember this part.
Nothing wrong with the place: it is in the middle of a busy promenade so you have to adjust expectations. The personnel were friendly and the food tasty, not too special but decent. Drinks a bit pricy but decent selection.
But still we felt like we were not treated too honestly. We specifically said we do not want any bread with tapas and still bread was brought to us.
It was just 1 bun with aioli so we were like ok this must be free bread that comes by default.
At the end we got a bill with bread additionally charged. Like 3 eur for a tiny bun. Small thing but makes you wonder about honesty.
At the end of the evening the host also asked us to leave a review for them. We did not mind leaving it, but he quite literally took my phone, found el Pescador on Google maps and typed 5 stars in. Hence I think their exceptional reviews are not always 100% honestly sourced.
Everyone treated us nicely so I cannot complain but I would say that probably the place is touristic and each guest's individual experience fades a bit in the crowds that come to...
Read moreAs we were leaving we saw the old man that had been serving us eating icecream straight from the display, and dipping the same spoon back in!!!! If hygiene standards in the kitchen are similar, I would definitely avoid this place.
The guy out front clearly says anything to get people in. He told us they had everything gluten free, including pizza and pasta. I was obviously highly doubtful of this but thought maybe there'd be some tapas I could eat. However, when we sat down and began asking the waiter about some dishes it turned out almost everything had gluten in.
We decided to go elsewhere as I'd lost all trust in the place. It was as we were leaving that we noticed the ice cream eating....
