We arrived in Murcia in the waning light of a July afternoon, parched and travel-weary, only to find that most kitchens had long since shuttered against the fierce heat of the day. The air hung thick and motionless, the city drowsy in its siesta.
And then—like an oasis—there was Saona.
Where others turned the key and closed the door, Saona welcomed us with warmth and ease, as though we were expected guests rather than last-minute wanderers. The atmosphere was airy and calm, shaded from the sun but full of quiet life. From the first glass of cold water to the final bite of dessert, it was an experience that felt curated, not merely served.
The food was a revelation: crisp, modern, but rooted in honest flavors. Each plate seemed to balance freshness with intention—no embellishment for the sake of trend, just confident, thoughtful cooking. The service? Gracious without being intrusive, attentive without the artifice.
And then, the bill. 13.99 euros for a three-course meal—a figure so low it felt like a misprint. They could have charged twice that, and I wouldn’t have blinked.
Saona didn’t just feed us; it restored us. In the golden stillness of a Murcian afternoon, it felt like a small,...
Read moreSaona Murcia is delicious. Just behind the Murcia Cathedral with its Wild Men Coat of Arms and sculpted chains the food is magical and I’m still trying to understand how the meal was only 14 euros. The Peruvian appetizer of mashed potato with chicken and lemon puréed , I’d very had such a thing , it was so light and elegant. My server Lina told me the chef is Peruvian and knows well how to make this. The pork was great too and for dessert it was a frozen white chocolate cloud filled with some sort of cloud like fluff . I really cannot understand how this meal was so good and only 14 euros . If I went to Burger King it might have been 10 euros. I’m going to figure this out, maybe the restaurant is a front for money laundering ! Whatever, eat there and every day you’re in Murcia . Back tomorrow. I’m on a trip to Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba and Toledo , any chance you have restaurants there ? Much thanks for an enjoyable meal in a stylish atmosphere without a crazy price. A Lina was a perfect server , explaining the dishes and in perfect English as I don’t speak Spanish . Monroe Warshaw...
Read moreMore red flags than a communist party rally. We had to walk out after the starters… From the moment we walked in we got a bad vibe. Despite booking they looked completely unprepared for us. We waited ages for service, but to give the young waitress her due, she was helpful and friendly when she did come. The starters were actually delicious, but this was the only highlight. Tables around us were strewn with used plates and glasses, nobody bothered to clear for at least the hour we were there - big red flag. Toilets were unclean - another red flag. Starters weren’t cleared before the mains arrived, no new cutlery either - more red flags - this is basic stuff in hospitality. When the mains came out the chicken was raw. We complained and it went back, only to come back just 5 minutes later - they’ve clearly just heated it up a bit more rather than prepare a whole new dish. That was the final straw. We paid for drinks and our starters and left. I would avoid this place at all costs, don’t be taken in by the trendy decor and menu, it does not live up to...
