I went for the first time this season with some friends who have been going to Willy's for years. They told me the story of how the owner has slowly and carefully built up his business in to the new, large and beautiful premises he now has. One night there shows you how he has managed this in a very competitive market.
Inside feels exactly right, a fast food setting but comfortable, clean and modern. Full glass windows show off the outside terrace which is roughly the same size as inside.
The food is simple, well priced and exactly what you should expect for the setting and the price.
Burgers, chicken, fries and simple dishes make up a relatively small but strong menu (presented in multiple languages.). Every drink, whether Sprite or Beer was served at a perfect temperature in presentable glasses with ice and lemon if necessary.
The real draw for me though is an owner who personally greets guests as much as he can, very warmly in the case of those who have been here for years and, equally so for those who are new (like me!).
There was a Spanish and an English birthday in at the same time. An excellent and upbeat Spanish happy birthday song was played for the Spanish group and, Stevie Wonders Happy Birthday was played for the English one (a welcome replacement to our usual choice of song...). Everyone joined in to celebrate and sing in an infectiously happy environment.
I've worked in hospitality all my life. For me, this place epitomises that industry as it should be. Honest, kind, caring, thoughtful and fun with attention paid to...
Read moreWilly's is a crowded space and and we did not want to go to a chain and rather visit something local. It turned out to be the biggest mistake of our vacation. Willy's looks like an American diner and the staff is very friendly, but that's it. When the "fresh" food arrived within minutes we began to wonder. My wife had the shrimps in garlic oil and only ate half which was enough to knock her out for the rest of the day with food poisoning. The kids and I had chicken wings and and a burger, which were unseasoned and came carelessly on an empty plate. That all explained the very, very cheap prices. There's plenty of other food options around. Do youself a favour and spent 12 euros per person and get decent food...
Read moreIt's ok if you are in a rush and need something to eat but don't expect too much. We ordered hamburgers and even though they were not expensive, I would not say it was good value for the price. The bread did not look and taste fresh, and there was barely anything in the hamburger. It was kind of disappointing.
The service on the other hand was nice, all the staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait a lot for the food.
As for the atmosphere, that could really use some improvment. The floor and the chairs were not cleaned regularly, everything was dirty and covered in crumbs, french fries or...
