Bar Redondo — Restaurant in Nerja

Returned here in early October 2022 for the first time since before the pandemic. This used to be our go to bar in Nerja for the drinks, tapas and customer service. Mario was the main barman behind the round bar and the heart of the place. He was always warm and friendly even when under pressure and extremely busy.

What a disappointment to find that he had since left and been replaced with a young woman who could only be described as his polar opposite. She avoided making eye contact, had a face on her like she didn’t want to be there and was on her phone constantly. We changed seats after ordering from one of the male waiters and when my partner waved at him to let him know where we had moved to the bar woman thought we were waving at her for her attention and snapped at us that she would be over when she was ready. My partner tried to explain that she was waving at the waiter and the bar woman snapped again that she was busy drying glasses. We were a bit taken aback by how rude she was and she never did come near us to see what we wanted to drink. We stayed for one drink and then left not to return again sadly. I’m not sure who owns this bar but you need to employ staff who want to be there and don’t snap at customers. Honest review from multiple visits!!!! My wife and I kept coming back Redondo for their consistency, atmosphere, and amazing staff. Whether you sit at the bar as a couple or in a group at a table you will have a great time. Every drink ordered you get free tapas, unbeatable Spanish value of course. We would recommend Nacho, talented bartender that is prompt and always has a ear open, he does not miss a beat. Give him a raise he works hard!!! Shots on the house lol!!! Eduardo attended us on the third night and kept the gin and tonics flowing, they all work hard with great laughs. So many quality tapas to choose from with expansive menu, there is a reason for so many reviews and such a large multi bar location. We never had any problems with the check or service. The tapas are hit and miss depending on what you have a taste for and good cheesecake too. If you want an authentic experience go to this tapas bar, don't waste your time elsewhere. If you show up enough times you will feel like part of their family. We will be back and recommend to all! I’ve been coming to Nerja since I was 5 and have very fond memories of the redondo going back 25 years. Went recently on two separate trips with my girlfriend and friends and both times I was really disappointed and let down by the quality of the service. Both times we were sat inside in the smaller bar area and the manager was on duty. He was beyond rude to me, my friends and girlfriend on both occasions. He wasn’t offering to take our orders but was very attentive to others around him. When we did try to get his attention, he was raising his hand to my girlfriend and telling her to be ‘calm’. When we did get a drink order, he didn’t offer us tapas either. It put such a dampener on our evenings on both occasions. It was incredibly frustrating as this was my first time bringing my girlfriend and friends to what has been a staple of Nerja for so many years.
