Disappointing experience tonight with family. Felt like we were looked down upon almost immediately for having young children with us which was unfair, especially since the kids were perfectly well behaved - also if that is the case then why bother having high chairs available?
Food was quite nice but nothing spectacular which is particularly disappointing when you are expecting a more fine dining experience and paying more of a premium for this. The worst aspect was absolutely the service. Because we had turned up with young children we felt we were shoved into the corner of the restaurant to keep us out of the way and the waiting staff gave our table a wide berth unless they had to clear plates, etc. Simple touches like dumping bread on our table (not side plates) without butter or oil, etc and not offering anything to follow dinner i.e. dessert menu or after dinner drinks made us feel like they wanted our family in and out as fast as possible. Again this was despite the fact our kids were being incredibly well behaved even for their ages.
Thankfully service charge was not already added to the bill - almost as if they rightfully expected no tip. We have visited Nerja at least once a year for the past 6 years and can confidently say there are plenty of other far less pretentious restaurants with better quality food, ambience, and friendlier staff more worth your...
Read moreService was really slow, it took 15 minutes for drinks to be ordered (we had not even seen the drinks menu! Yet then took a further 10 minutes to get the food menu. Once ordered it took 20-25 minutes for starter too come. Once that was finished it took 20 minutes for main to come (which was ok) but then all the plates came out at different times so by the time the last person got served the first person had finished eating (not what I expect from a 4 1/2 star restaurant). Also one of the waiters was found to be quite rude to us but the other one was very pleasant. In my opinion the restaurant needed at least 4-5 waiters instead of 2. The food was actually quite nice and well presented. Overall the service was utterly terrible and the food was good but I don’t think wit was worth the 45 per person. But if the service was better and a bit quicker that is what I would of expected! I would definitely recommend to go to someplace like Botanic, Bakus or Carabeo (Restaurante) 34 if you are looking for a nice restaurant; as these have similar types of food and prices but the service is so much better than Patanegra 57 (the quality of which a fine dining 4 1/2 - 5 star restaurant...
Read moreLovely food and (almost) perfect service.
My partner decided not to have a starter and main but to have two starters, one for starters and one for main, the restaurant accommodated this with ease.
For starters I had a dish I'd not tried here before: Arroz meloso de setes con vieiras y carabinero. The risotto was very delicately flavoured, with soft creamy rice. Very tasty indeed. My partner had an old favourite - Queso de Cabra gratinado, ensalda de Temporada y crujiiente de con jamón - which he thoroughly enjoyed.
For mains I opted for an Entrecot de Añojo a la Brasa – poco heche. The veal was tasty, tender and full of blood. Perfect for me. It was served with some random carefully cut vegetables. My partner’s second course was Gambon en tempura con salsa agridulce another one he really enjoys and he was very pleased with it.
Service here is normally very professional – one small criticism – we didn’t get offered an Amuse Boche when all the other diners did – it was very busy, so I’ll forgive them on this occasion – but it does mean this is a four star, not a five...
