ARTWALL Bar - Restaurant — Restaurant in Palma

Strange experience... turned up for lunch at 1.20 for one and after some deliberation with reception on the phone to the restaurant upstairs I was accepted (it doesn't start until 1.30). I was the only one there but was asked not to sit at a beautifully fully pre laid table (which was 'reserved') and instead brought a menu, a placemat and cutlery only.

I ordered clam spaghetti (vongole) described on the menu as 'al dente in a fish broth', as it should be. I received overcooked spaghetti in a tomato sauce so I couldn't taste the clams. Meanwhile two Spanish people were seated nearby and received very attentive service. My service was cold and minimal and I was not asked how my meal was, so Google reviews gets my answer.

I don't recall actually ever having felt discriminated against for being British but I'm sorry to say that was the case here (I was also dressed in sandals and a t-shirt. For a smart restaurant I would usually dress more appropriately, but I don't think that justifies any of the above).

RESERVA: Llamamos para reservar y cuando llegamos no tenían nuestra reserva preparada. No pasó nada porque había sitio. Justificaron el desliz a un empleado que ya no estaba. SERVICIO: Personal amable pero poco formado. Parecían nuevos. Por lo visto habían cambiado a varios empleados. Tardaron bastante en servir, y eso que solo éramos 3 mesas en todo el restaurante: una que se iba y la otra ya servida. Es decir, que éramos los únicos a los que atendían. COMIDA: En general salada. Desglosando: Revuelto de gulas con gambas: bueno Bacalao: bueno Tartar de atún y tartar de salmón: muy fuerte de sabor, demasiado. No nos gustó. Ensaladilla: saladísima. La ventresca llevaba sal por encima, además de la que ya tuviera más la de la ensaladilla y costaba mucho comerla. Había que ir comiendo con pan porque sino no se podía comer. No la recomiendo a menos que se avise que no le pongan sal, no se podía comer. Calamar relleno: bueno. Croquetas y albóndigas: bueno. Postres: buenos. Pedimos el de praliné, el flan de queso y el tocino de cielo. Que, por cierto, podrían poder otra descripción que no sea el mismo título (ver foto). BAÑOS: limpios pero pequeños y poca cantidad. Incómodos. Complicado entrar si vais más de dos personas. ALERGENOS: Puestos en la carta. Aún así avisar del tema sin gluten porque querían meter el pan sin gluten en la tostadora común... Tengo mis dudas con el tataki porque decía que llevaba salsa de soja (que tiene gluten normalmente) pero solo ponía en los alérgenos que tenía soja, no avisaban del gluten. El dueño, por favor, que lo revise que esa salsa lleva de normal trigo a menos que se compre especialmente sin gluten (más cara y difícil de encontrar). HOTEL: tiene muchos cuadros bonitos dentro, además de los muros. Merece la pena...

We had such a wonderful experience at this restaurant! It’s located in a beautiful building and has a lovely terrace where you can also enjoy your meal. The prices are very reasonable, the food was absolutely outstanding, and the waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful with recommendations. We loved it so much that we ended up eating there two days in a row – I would have definitely gone back again if my holiday hadn’t already ended. It’s also within walking distance from the center of Mallorca, which makes it really convenient. Highly recommend!...
