Being of Indian origin, I believe I am well qualified enough to know good food when I see it and sadly, my experience at The Bombay Cafe in Portixol, that too on my birthday, was ABYSMAL.
Sad though, as my husband and I ate here a few months ago and ordered just the biryani which was not bad which is why I chose this place for my birthday dinner with my husband and children. Thank goodness we didn't invite any friends as we would have been the laughing stock for suggesting this restaurant.
We arrived to blaring music of two kinds as the loud music in the restaurant was competing with the music that the chef had to listen to through an open kitchen window while he was cooking. We had to request that they choose just one type of music and turn it down so that we could hear each other speak.
The waiter and cook were shabbily dressed and all the food tasted of sweet chili sauce. We ordered a dhansak which the chef must not have had a clue about as he put huge chunks of pineapple but failed to cook it with any lentils whatsoever. The punjabi chaat was even worse with none of the pomegranates promised in the printed menu. Just swimming in sweet sauce again.
Never again. AWFUL, AWFUL food - don't waste your time or money on this place. Such a shame as the location is lovely.
Worst Indian food that I have tasted in Mallorca, not that any of the others would pass the test either for any authentic Indian eating in...
Read moreWe booked a table for lunch for 4 through the automatic reservation system, only to turn up yesterday and be told that the kitchen has been closed for 3 weeks, so no food possible! Doesn't seem like a temporary problem, e.g. electricity. There is no indication of this on the restaurant's website, or on their Google opening hours. They are open for drinks, so technically open, but that's not why most people would book a table. Disappointing, as we've had some good meals there in the past, hence the star rating of 3 (no way to leave it blank). Advise phoning to make sure, and also advise the restaurant to be clear about this on their...
Read moreWe ordered Kadhai Paneer and Dal Tadka — both were very disappointing. The paneer was extremely oily with barely any gravy and mostly just vegetables, while the dal was oddly sweet and not at all how it should be. When we raised the issue with the staff, they were unhelpful and simply said “it’s like this only,” without making any effort to resolve the problem or offer alternatives. We also had to repeatedly ask for bowls, and in the end, they gave us the large serving bowls instead of proper individual ones. Overall, a poor experience — both in terms of food...
