I went to this bar about a week ago for a big get together with my colleagues. The only good part about this bar were the ambience, the decor, and the PHENOMENAL waiter we had. The restaurant has an amazingly beautiful terrace with grapevines across the top of it. It really helps to set the mood for a relaxing dinner. The waiter was on top of his game and one of the best waiters I have ever had. He spoke English and even helped explain many various menu items. He not only waited our table of 39 people but also other tables in the area and did not miss a beat.
Now here are the reasons for my negative review. My section of the table ordered four dishes: zorza, tortilla grande, 2 servings of calamari, and 1 serving of Padron peppers. The only dish that came out perfect and wonderful was the zorza. It was beautifully done and tasted great!
The tortilla grande: The tortilla grande cost 13 euros and the waiter showed us a size that seemed very large. What we received at our table was very different. The tortilla looked more like a normal sized tortilla that you could get for less at any nearby restaurant. Our entire table of 39 people had ordered multiple tortillas and the kitchen said first that it would be some time and finally said that it was unable to make the five tortilla grandes that we had ordered and could only make one. (That seemed very odd to me because how does a kitchen not have enough to make multiple tortillas for a large group that had made a reservation a week in advance AT A RESTAURANT IN SPAIN WHERE TORTILLA IS THE NATIONAL DISH?) In the end the tortilla was not bad at all, it was well cooked along the outside and runny on the inside.
The Padron Peppers: These peppers were either overcooked or not fresh. I have never seen peppers that looked so small and shriveled. As we tried the Padron Peppers we debated about why they were so odd. Normally Padron peppers shrivel a bit when cooked but they still taste fresh but never shriveled to the point where they are much smaller than the stem they're attached to!
Calamari (Squid): We ordered fried squid (calamares). The restaurant served us something that tasted very rubbery and not like fried squid at all. We told the waiter it tasted like pota (another squid that has poorer quality and is chemically treated to make it palatable). In coastal regions when you order "Calamares" it's well understood you want the proper squid and not the pota (because pota is very low quality). The waiter assured us it was the proper squid we thought we had paid for and he gestured to us saying he had cleaned them just this morning but...the gesture he made was definitely for a pota-sized animal and not a "calamar" sized animal. He then told us, after taking the dish to the kitchen, that they were out of calamar. We were going to order another dish but then he brought back a fresh pot of calamar/pota. This batch tasted better but it was still pota in my opinion. Some restaurants serve pota to tourists because many tourists don't know the difference.
I gave the one star because the waiter was truly remarkable, the ambience was stellar, the decor was impeccable, and the zorza was delicious. If you go to this restaurant, I would avoid the other three dishes I mentioned here and stick...
Read moreThis is one of the best places I have visited in Spain for drinks. The waiters are excellent and the choice of local drinks is extensive. 1 Euro for a bowl of local white wine - El Ribeiro de la casa barril. A Spanish non-Martini choice for Vermouth made by Pepa a Loba. The best place to sit is under the vines in the garden. The entrance is unprepossessing but when you go inside head to the back and turn left - the...
Conclusión, no volveré a dicho establecimiento. Ah!!...El vino de taza está bueno. El pincho socorrido (macarrones). No volveré jamás. Espero que no cierre después del verano. Gracias por la...
