La Taberna del Áncora — Restaurant in Salou

This place has been introduced to me by my friends living locally. I wanted to share this experience with my other friend, who has travelled from Scotland. We had lunch outside. Went for the offer of €19 for 2 courses including a drink, bread then starter, main and your choice of dessert or coffee. My advice - go for both 😀 Cheesecake is a must. I had to try the mussels. Simplicity is the key. As good as in 2023. My friend is not a big fan of mussels, so she went for gnocchi. She obviously tried the mussels, and became a fan of La Taberna’s ones. We both opted for fidueá and were impressed. Then the cheesecake 😀 We had a lunch in a great place, with a friendly staff and wonderfully delicious food. My friend is hoping to visit Salou next year, so you’ll see us again. I will definitely visit before my, soon departure. La Taberna del Áncora is a mus on the food map of Salou. The service was very poor and dismissive. When we arrived, we were ignored for some time before being told to wait. Eventually, they said we could sit, but warned us that the food would take a while. Even after that, we were left waiting again with little attention. I had to call the waiter over for drinks, and even then, he never came back. Everything was extremely slow, and our dinner ended up lasting 2.5 hours without even having dessert.

On top of that, we had asked for a table outside, but were told none were available — yet throughout the entire time we were dining there were empty tables and no one sat there until their closing time.

The food itself was also disappointing. One of the dishes was completely raw—not just undercooked, but uncooked. I don’t mind a proper medium rare, but this wasn’t it.

This restraunt is decorated beautifully and is spacious inside and out. The staff are great and service efficient.

It is attached to a lovely hotel but the food is outstanding. We had the three course menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very well priced but the food was absolutely fantastic. We would have never tried the items on it without the tasting menu but are glad we did. Quality ingredients and at the end it was well priced to our delight. Beautiful wine pairing too.
