Bar Strand-Apo-Theke — Restaurant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

After a hot afternoon at Maspalomas beach, we stopped at Bar Strand-Apo-Theke for a couple of sundowners before heading back to our hotel in Playa Del Ingles.

The place sits right by the seafront, easy to spot with its open terrace and casual setup. The service was good, with friendly waiting staff who were keen to refill our glasses when they neared empty. We were undercharged for our beers and the server was very grateful when we came clean about our consumption.

The drink highlight was a cool beer enjoyed in the early evening sun. Simple but exactly what we needed. We saw others enjoying sausage and chips, which we’d have had if we were hungry at the time.

The atmosphere was excellent for chilling out on the seafront, enjoying the last part of the day. Inside, there’s a vibrant, gay-friendly atmosphere with euro-pop and 80s hits. There was a decent crowd enjoying the tunes—and they were super friendly too, with a few people making conversation with us.

Post-beach party bar for indoor-smoking Germans only. If you are not German you are made to feel very unwelcome here. Also, you are likely to be sexually assaulted by older drunk guys (it’s a generational thing, I understand, but if you are younger and used to being treated with respect then prepare to be surprised… I was groped and kissed on the lips by a drunk German guy within 15 seconds of walking in; fine it’s a party bar and nobody wants to be a fun sponge but come on guys … it’s 2024). If you are trying to return to your seat from the toilet you can expect German customers to block your path and refuse to move; they will have the support of the bar staff to do whatever they please, including smoking inside in a very crowded bar which is not just illegal...

If you plan to go to this bar because they have a huge sign saying: NO Smoking. Give up and go somewhere else because they do allow, and invite, people to smoke inside or outside. We went there twice because the first experience was great and we knew that there was a non smoke área, but everything was ruined because the smoke. We tried to complaint about it but it was useless...I would suggest them, again, to remove the sign saying that is not allowed to smoke inside the bar( which is ilegal, if I'm not...
