The Good: Location (seaside). The potatoes that came with my fish were perfectly cooked and seasoned. They also offered a complimentary digestif at the end of the meal. I didn’t like it, but it was appreciated.
The Bad: Tiramisu was served frozen. Like impenetrable. Hard as a rock. They switched it out with Creme Brûlée (which I haven’t yet tasted as I’m writing this review prior to its arrival… writing but not posting until the food is safely in front of me.). Also, they seemed more motivated to get walkerbys to sit that to make sure actual guests were cared for. Not once did the see if I wanted another drink.
The Ugly: Original waiter seemed like he understood my Spanish and would have provided great service. The English speaking one who barged in did not get one thing right. My grilled fish was pan fried (as one example).
All this at beachside prices to boot. (I might have to revisit this review and rating as the Creme Brûlée (technically Catalon Creme) makes me sick as it seemed a little runny. After taking a bite, I...
Read moreJust came in for a small lunch. Outside this restaurant shares a table with Pepe Burger. Probably the same owner, because the waiters wore the same Casa Antonio shirt. There were two menus on the table. The waitress gave me one and walked of with the other. The waitress therefor left me with the menu of El Velero, but I just wanted a sandwich for lunch and could not find any on the menu. So I went to another table and took a menu from Pepe Burger that did have sandwiches. I ordered a beer (only small bottles of Tropical, no draught) and a egg sandwich. They have more expensive beers on draught though). The bottle of Tropical (33 cl) was priced exactly the same (€2.50) as a pint of draught for this beer elsewhere). The sandwich did fill my stomach, but nothing special. Except for the prices. Those are at least 50% higher than the prices in the surrounding restaurants. It took them 10 minutes to get the bill for a beer and a sandwich after asking. And the already extreme prices did not...
Read moreOverall Fazit is "so lala". We went to this restaurant because we looked for a good paella place online and that came up. There is nothing bad with the food but atleast the standard dishes are not something I would recommend. We had several different entradas like melon con jamón, avocado con gambas, grilled pimiento and pan con ajo. Was OK. The gambas are ofc frozen but where also quite rubbery. As main dish we had mixed and sea food paella for 2x2. Ofc I not a cook and I also done know everything about food, but for me the paella should be a bit crusty at the bottom and not overly moist. So overall taste was fine but I would probably not name it one of the top places. The prices are quite hight for gran Canaria, which is nothing bad since sea food should come with a price. The 2 portion size of paella would probably be also OK for 3. The vibe is what you expect from a street side (outside) restaurant, busy and loud. The beach side places need to be reserved...
