Located on the first floor of the shopping centre, in the space formerly occupied by the Moonlight Cinema, this Thai restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience.
The decor transports you straight to Thailand with its authentic, cosy, and eclectic design. The layout provides privacy, making it perfect for couples, families, groups, or even solo diners. The atmosphere can adapt—romantic, fun, or relaxed—depending on the occasion. The attention to detail in the decor enhances the authenticity, with Thai-inspired elements creating a warm and inviting environment.
We were greeted warmly at the bar by the bartender, waitress, and a welcoming maître d’, who guided us to our table. She wished us a happy anniversary, explained the menu, and shared recommendations, making us feel immediately welcome.
The drinks menu is creative and varied, offering everything from classic options to smoothies and cocktails. This variety makes the restaurant as appealing for casual drinks as it is for dining. The presentation of the cocktails is a particular highlight, with vibrant colours and garnishes that make them as visually stunning as they are delicious.
The food menu focuses on meat and fish dishes but includes vegetarian options too. Pricing is fair: starters range from €1–€20, mains from €12–€25, and desserts from €5–€15. Drinks are reasonably priced and comparable to the local area.
We started with the Sharing Starter, which included Fried Prawns, Spring Rolls, Chicken Wings, and Satay Chicken Skewers with Prawn Crackers. Drinks arrived within 5 minutes, followed shortly by the starters. The presentation was excellent, and most items were exceptional. The Satay Chicken was the standout, with tender skewers and a divine satay sauce. The Fried Prawns were delicious, though I’d have preferred a spicier dipping sauce. The Spring Rolls were crisp and generously filled, but the Chicken Wings lacked flavour.
For mains, we chose the Duck Lychee Curry (spicy) and a Masaman Curry with Fried Rice. Both dishes arrived promptly and were beautifully presented. The Masaman Curry had a rich, deep flavour, though it could have used more potatoes. The Duck Lychee Curry was outstanding, with perfectly balanced sweet and spicy flavours and tender duck. It’s a dish not to miss.
We finished with Thai Roti for dessert, a delightful way to end the meal. The accompanying ice cream was of exceptional quality, bursting with flavour.
The maître d’ and her team were attentive throughout, checking in regularly to ensure we were happy. Her care extended to all guests—she noticed when people were cold and offered alternative seating, rearranged space for a buggy and high chair, and even picked up a dropped cushion for a child to ensure he was comfortable.
The restaurant was spotless, with polished cutlery, clean tables, and a tidy bar. The atmosphere remained calm even as it got busier. We arrived at 6:30 pm, when it was quiet, but by 8:00 pm, it was busy. Booking ahead is recommended, and their website offers easy online reservations.
This restaurant is a must-visit in Gran Canaria. Whether in Meloneras or elsewhere on the island, it’s worth travelling for the authentic Thai flavours, exceptional service, and inviting atmosphere. The Duck Lychee Curry is a highlight, and the drinks menu adds to its appeal. With fair pricing, outstanding food, and a thoughtful team, this place...
Read moreWe went here on recommendation from a local resident in Arguineguin who said this place was amazing as a family of 6 adults we booked and arrived ordered our food the rice was cold we had a mixed sizzler dish which portion size and presentation was terrible especially at €49 it had pork chicken beef and prawns and inly what I could describe as fat in a sauce as one of the mixed meats the size of the portion and the presentation was very poor having eaten Thai food around the world this is by far the most expensive and worst presented food we have eaten, don't get me wrong the food tastes OK but only ok nothing that says WOW and the setting is nice with all the sparkly lights but sawadee needs to re think there prices our bill was €140 we were in and out of sawadee in less than an hour and some of our party ate again elsewhere as they were still hungry
Portion size terrible service good and attentive taste ok the overpriced shocking I did challenge the price of 49 euro for the mixed sizzle but was told well there was 300g of this and 300g of this food I said to him our food was not worth what we paid and he just shrugged his shoulders.
For such a nice setting this place gets a 1 star from me for the price and terrible size of food portion.
To put it into context we ate Thai in puerto rico 4 days earlier and 3 people had amazing food and we stuffed full formless than 47 euro.
I think sawadee melonares is just targeting a captive audience, we travelled on recommendation, very...

The food is simply outstanding. The starters are fantastic, offering a vibrant introduction to the flavors of Thailand. Each dish is carefully prepared and beautifully presented, making it a visual and culinary delight.
The Massaman Curry is a standout – rich, flavorful, and with just the right amount of spice. The tender chicken. practically melts in your mouth, complemented perfectly by the creamy sauce. If you’re in the mood for seafood, the Chuchee Curry is equally impressive, boasting a deliciously creamy and aromatic sauce that perfectly highlights the fresh prawns.
To accompany the meal, a cold Singha beer is the ideal choice, balancing the spice of the curries and enhancing the overall dining experience.
Beyond the exceptional food, it’s the service that truly elevates SA•WAD•DEE. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and fun. Suki, in particular, deserves special mention for her role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience.
