Confused and inconsistent service (1 of every 3 to 4 dishes were actually explained to us). The food actually got worse as the dinner went on which is a staple in every mediocre restaurant these days.. I can take service of mediocre quality. But the fact that every main dish was weak and overbearing along side the fact we paid 166 euros for 2 menus and a wine makes this a no-go for me. I would recommend to skip. Also the desert (which is included in the menu was abysmal..)
If anyone is interested in what was bad about the food: After 6-7(!) appetizers we went on to the 3 main dishes. First a Bacalau which was undercooked and watery, yet covered in heavy green sauce and the mention of "Panko" which was nowhere to be found. This was followed by two meat dishes which we were served together (for some reason..). One was a plain, unsalted, uninspired (to say the least) piece of roast beef with assorted carrots (I think.. no one bothered to explain these dishes), the other was a piece of overly done pancheta which was served on bread even though we were 7-8 dishes in. To top it all off we got store bought milk-based strawberry ice cream with old and over processed strawberries on top to really ruin the pallet towards our departure.
The good: the wine + first few dishes I guess. Can't really remember them though after the latter half...
Read moreWe saw the bad reviews amongst the “excellent” reviews and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, our last night in SS was a Monday so options were limited and Muka had space available. Now we know why…
Genuinely the worst meal we had in SS (and one of our worst ever). So disappointed that it ended this way.
The service was bad. Barely any greeting. We got the set menu and the wine pairings. Barely any explanation to what anything was. Empty glasses and used cutlery / crockery left on the table.
At one point, they gave us another table’s food by accident and after 2/3 mins, took it off us. They had to be reminded to give us the next wine.
Their whole stick is dishes cooked on a flame, and bar some charcoal bits nominally strewn over some peppers, you wouldn’t have guessed.
The tuna dish was genuinely inedible, we left it. Tasted like the fatty awful bit of tuna that no one wants, midway between being seared and cooked through. It was horrible.
The wine pairing was bad. Only the last wine was good.
We had to ask for the bill 3 times. In the end, I had to go in to pay and was greeted by about 3 gormless staff members before I could actually pay.
No music and so absolutely no atmosphere at all.
Overall, avoid. Style over substance and completely overpriced. Can’t believe it’s on...
Read moreOriginally from Australia, we've lived in San Sebastian for seven months now so we know our way around the city. Muka is our go-to place for when we have visitors, as navigating pintxos in the Old Town can be tricky when you're in a group. Muka is by far our favourite of this kind of eatery. In our four visits so far, the food has been up there with the best (even compared with Michelin-starred places), the service fantastic, and the staff very accommodating for beginner-level Spanish speakers like me. On the eve of the assumption of the Virgin holiday they held a special event upstairs, with drinks and canapes on the deck followed by a set menu, followed by watching the fireworks from the deck. It was fantastic. A simple but elegant and delicious menu, plus the staff were as attentive and helpful as always. It was only €70 each for world-class food and essentially silver service. This place is a real gem, in a city...
