It was a very pleasant experience eating on the terrace of La Perla, a posh looking restaurant right on San Sebastián’s waterfront, and a rare one at that.

It felt like a tourist trap, but it’s not, go with confidence.

However, be careful in your meal selection. The jamon Iberico was top notch, excellent quality. The aragula salad also had the same jamon with fresh tasting and peppery aragula. Pretty straight forward dish.

The standout dish of this lunch was the scallops : fresh, distinctive taste, the scallops are elevated by a savant mix of vegetables that makes it explode in your mouth. Highly recommended.

However, the Cesar salad is to avoided. It simply is not a Caesar salad in the most commonly know version of the dish. What we thought (from afar) were croutons, we’re actually breaded chicken nuggets. There is nothing wrong with chicken nuggets, it just was not specified on the menu, so it was not a welcome surprise. Not catastrophic, not what we expected. Croutons are not home made.

Service was minimal. Had to wave down the service staff a few times to get their attention. Different people take orders and serve dishes, made for a somewhat impersonal experience.

The pintxos we tasted were delicious, we just wished there were more choices. Only 2 available at the start of lunch service.

Overall, we recommend La Perla. The location is obviously the star of the show. Service is slow and impersonal, but the food is generally very good.

P.S.: thank you for leaving a quick 👍 if this review was useful in making choices,...

La Perla is perhaps one of the most famous bars/restaurants in all of San Sebastian. The reason is simple. Location! Location! Location! Situated right at the beach, the restaraunt offers the most panaromic views of the Concha, the most beautiful beach in all of Europe. People use it as a meeting point to catch up with friends, get together with their lovers or even organize business meetings with colleagues. There are options to sit outside at the terrace or inside the restaurants. Both are excellent choices, depending on what you prefer.

The food is also reasonably good, though very little for Vegetarians on the menu. However, they were open and friendly enough to dish out some Vegetarian dishes using the ingredients they had, and actually did a pretty good job with it! The desserts were also fantastic.

Catching up with friends, time flew so quickly and true to its name, it is the pearl of this...

Disappointing Experience at La Perla Restaurant**

We had a very disappointing experience at La Perla in Donostia-San Sebastián on June 19 at 9:20 PM. Despite the restaurant's closing time being 10:30 PM, the person in charge rudely refused us entry, claiming that they had worked all day and didn't want to accept more customers, especially those coming in from the rain. This treatment was unacceptable, with the manager using harsh words and being extremely rude. We also noticed that other customers who arrived after us were still being served.

Earlier that day, we had lunch at La Perla, and the food was subpar. However, a young waiter provided decent service, which was the only positive aspect of our visit. Despite our overall wonderful experience in San Sebastián, our encounters at La Perla were far from satisfactory. We do not recommend this restaurant.

Basque Review:

Izenburua: Esperientzia etsigarria La Perla jatetxean

Esperientzia oso etsigarria izan genuen Donostia-San Sebastiángo La Perla jatetxean, ekainaren 19an, 9:20 PMetan. Jatetxearen itxiera-ordua 10:30 PM izan arren, arduradunak sarrera ukatu zigun modu zakarrean, egun osoan lan egin zuela eta gehiago bezeroak hartu nahi ez zituela argudiatuz, bereziki euritan etorri zirenak. Tratu hau onartezina izan zen, kudeatzaileak hitz gogorrak erabiliz eta oso zakarra izanik. Halaber, gu baino geroago iritsi ziren beste bezeroak oraindik zerbitzatzen ari zirela ohartu ginen.

Egun horretan goizean, La Perlan bazkaldu genuen, eta janaria kaxkarra izan zen. Hala ere, zerbitzari gazte batek ondo atenditu gintuen, gure bisitako alderdi positibo bakarra izanik. San Sebastiángo gure esperientzia orokor zoragarria izan arren, La Perlako bisitak oso ez-atseginak izan ziren. Ez dugu jatetxe hau...

La Perla Taberna. Beers sweating on the table, a glass of muscat wine catching the light like something holy. Music drifting in and out, lazy and warm. And the beach, right there, golden and endless, like a promise you never quite believed until now. No rush. No plans. Just sitting back, soaking in the afternoon sun and letting the world do what it wants. This isn’t a meal. It’s a moment. The kind you chase for years and barely recognize when you’re in it, until the drink’s half gone, the light’s just right, and you realize: yeah… this is the good stuff.
