TL;DR: After trying many (overall), this is the best burger on the island.

Imagine this - you're in Santa Cruz, feeling hungry, and you look up the top-rated burger spots. You find this one and decide to see what the hype is about.

Chubu 17 is tucked away on a quiet street where no cars pass - only trams 🚃

The menu is available via a QR code, which, unfortunately for me, was only in Spanish.

🚨Spoiler alert: this was the only downside.

We opted for the Libertad and La Mechero burgers. With every burger, you choose between a 100 gram or a 200 gram patty. Although the price may seem high, what they don't mention is that you also get free fries with the burger. If you're like most people, the 100g option is plenty, especially since you'll receive a generous portion of fries as well.

The presentation was excellent! The burgers were perfectly put together, and the fries were served with a sauce on the side. Regarding the ingredients, everything was incredibly fresh. The patties were juicy, the sauces delightful, and the buns were just right. For me, both burgers ticked every box for what I look for in a burger.

We tried both the regular and sweet potato fries. The quality of the potatoes and the clean oil used for frying were apparent in every bite. Each fry had a crunchy exterior and a fluffy interior.

To cap it off, the service was wonderful, and the location is great for outdoor seating as well. While you might not see many reviews from me with less than 5 stars, know that I don’t give such ratings lightly. It’s just that sometimes, instead of leaving a negative review, I choose not to review at all.

This burger place is a must! I’d say is one of the best burgers I had in a long time. First of all, staff is super nice. You can tell that there’s a good atmosphere between them. They were se helpful with burger selection. Now… the burgers! We had “La Cabrona” and “Libertad”. I’m not a big fan of goat’s cheese so I’m not gonna rate “La Cabrona” (its main ingredient is goat’s cheese). But let me tell you that “Libertad” blew my mind on the first bite 🤯. EXTRAORDINARY! Well the bun is a flavourful soft buttery brioche bun that combines perfectly with the rest. Personally I believe that a good bun is the key to a good burger. And then the beef patty has a perfect balance berween meat and fat, which makes it soooo juicy! Last but not least, the toppings (cheddad cheese, caramelized onion, tomato chutney, bbq sauce and bacon) blend into a pleasant explosion of flavours. A place where you can eat very tasty burgers. And the main thing is that they are not poured with a large amount of sauce, which covers the taste of meat and other ingredients. The filling of the burger is simple, but very successful. We tried the foie gras burger, which was tasty and has made me full. Although I would probably remove the bacon as an ingredient. And the other burger was with goat cheese, which was also excellent. I also want to note the fries. It seems they prepare them here themselves and they turn out great. I really appreciate when in the restaurant they don’t cook prepared fries.
