Café Suizo — Restaurant in Santander

Appalling customer service. My elderly mother and I spent 15 minutes standing outside waiting for several waitresses to even acknowledge our presence, despite being in their line of view, and being glanced at several times. The staff looked harassed even though there were plenty of tables available (a sure sign of incompetence and amateurism). Eventually, a family of 4 arrived, and pronto, they were sat immediately. When I complained, the waitress rudely retorted that she didn't know we were first, despite having told me 5 minutes earlier to wait until she was available. After sitting us down, she proceeded to diss us out to the family while taking their order, during which much hilarity ensued at our expense. The manager was nowhere to be seen and we ended up complaining to a waiter who promised someone would call us to apologise. Still waiting. We left and went to Los Arcos resto round the corner. One of the few cafés in the locality that's open early on a Sunday. There's no breakfast menu which makes things a bit challenging if your Spanish is rubbish, but we lucked out when we liked the look of what the man sitting next to us at the bar had; a crusty bread roll, generously stuffed with a freshly made omelette and a slice of bacon. So we pointed. When the bill came it turned out that it was part of a breakfast 'pincho' deal which comprised a coffee and a breakfast 'bocadillo'. Had an absolute ball at this place. Really great. Waiters were helpful and accommodating. We were recommeded a delicious French gin which was lovely and vermouth cocktails. We also had an exceptional cheese platter with Iberian ham. All of their baked goods are house made and we had a delicious if slightly indulgent chocolate cake.

Price wise we were actually pleasantly surprised it wasn't expensive at all for the location. If we were staying in the area we'd be back the next night to try more of the cake and pastries....
