Food was subpar at best, with either far too much or too little seasoning. The area was littered with used cigarette buds, and it reeked strongly of smoke.
From the onset, our waiter displayed an unprofessional attitude, characterized by rudeness and dismissiveness towards our requests and inquiries. Honestly, his behavior was sickening and I should've known by then that it was a sign of what was to come. To add to the frustration, he brought us a tiny bread basket which we had not ordered. Assuming it was a complimentary gesture, we consumed it, only to find later that an extra 6 euros had been added to our bill for the crumbs of bread he had given us.
When we asked him about this unexpected charge, his response was dismissive and illogical. He claimed that charging for the bread was a "Spanish tradition" and that we shouldn't have eaten it if we didn't want to pay. This reasoning is fundamentally flawed and reflects poor restaurant practice. Firstly, it's unacceptable to charge customers for unsolicited items. If a charge is applicable, it should be clearly communicated beforehand.
Moreover, his argument that we should not have eaten the bread to avoid the charge is nonsensical. Once food is served to a customer, it cannot be taken back and served to another due to basic hygiene and health standards. This practice is universally acknowledged in the hospitality industry. The waiter's logic not only disregards customer service ethics but also basic health regulations. It was an experience that significantly marred our dining experience and reflects poorly on the restaurant's management and training of staff.
For any traveler seeking a semi-enjoyable dining experience, I strongly advise avoiding this establishment. The lack of respect for customers and questionable practices indicate a deeper issue with the restaurant's ethos and...
Read moreTerrible restaurant. We have spent two weeks in Spain and have had such wonderful dinners and felt that our experiences have exceeded our expectations. Unfortunately cafe Santa Cruz was the outlier. When we sat down we were immediately moved to a table off to the side of the plaza for no apparent reason. It did not have enough chairs and the waiter simply gave the explanation as “this is normal” and dropped a folding chair at our daughter’s feet. I went inside to go to the restroom and the garbage was overflowing(it was a large garage can) so I assume it had not been changed for a couple of days. There was no soap to wash your hands-I checked the men’s and the soap dispenser was completely empty. I asked a staff member and he seemed to think it was funny. He told a bartender behind the bar and she rudely pretended to spit into her hands and motion to wash that way. I was shocked. I waiting a couple more minutes and found a staff member and she found some soap. I went out and couldn’t believe it but my husband and daughter had continued to have a rude experience with the waiter who when wiping the table down since it had bird poop on it the waiter seemed to think it was a ridiculous request and when after he wiped it down there was still bird poop he seemed exasperated. So disgusted by this restaurant. There did not seem to be any management so perhaps poor leadership. Anyhow, this restaurant is not a restaurant that represents the wonderful service and food you will experience...

This restaurant is located in a top location. The atmosphere when walking by looks amazing as does the inside of the restaurant. I can imagine it attracts a lot of tourists. Unfortunately this is where the positive points stop. We planned to have a nice breakfast here unfortunately the rude waiters and charging for items we never received made us leave wanting to give it a one star review. We had one dietary request and know that not everything is possible to accommodate. In the rest of Sevilla we had no problem finding suitable dishes and the staff always helped us to select the correct dish or suggested minor changes to a dish to make it gluten free. We try to start our conversation in Spanish but with the limited knowledge of the language and to be sure if we have any doubt we also ask this in English. For 5 days long this was not a problem but at this place when you say a single word in English they will ignore you and will hardly be helping you. On top of the cake we were also charged with an item that was never delivered when question about this we were pushed into paying because the item could not be removed. Bottom line there are many great restaurants in Sevilla, this one is definitely not one of them. Do not be tempted by the looks...
