Quite in the centre of Seville, just behind the Cathedral, Taberna Belmonte sits in the middle of a busy Calle heading towards Santa Cruz. The little tables outside are extremely popular, but the inside of the Restaurant is very pleasant also and, if you are hungry, a good compromise is to sit wherever you can. The piece de resistance is the Tomato dish, with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and herbs: it sounds very basic and it is, but I love tomatoes and with freshly baked bread, the ration is a decent lunch, light and flavoursome. Also a specialty are the grilled artichokes, but you only get four and they are quite small (although delicious) so you will have to order something else with them : fried aubergine with or without honey were crispy and fried to perfection. There's a great selection of wines for all tastes and budgets. A must visit if in Seville. Belmonte was a Bullfighter so please be aware that the decor is really characteristic, I saw some reviews taking offence with the bulls heads hanging on the dining room wall? I am Vegan and I have had a great lunch for several days, I was there for the food 🍲 PS: I don't know where all the racist, rude waiters are, everyone was friendly and efficient, to the point that after a couple of lunches in the Taberna the Staff would say hello when I...
Read moreFor 3 days of the vacation, we chose this restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Yesterday I asked the lady who served us what time it is open for breakfast. She said that at 9 o'clock, today before leaving town at 9.05 I arrived in front of the restaurant, I politely asked inside if my sister and I could sit down. We were told yes, 3 minutes later a young man came out completely unfriendly to tell us why we sat down? that he had to open the seats. I replied that it was not a problem that we can wait ,which he continued in a totally inappropriate tone the same plate. We didn't stay because I didn't think that I should stay on my own money and be humiliated that I dared to stay at the table.Excellent food, good location.Service? I can't say about everyone, the other colleagues were friendly, but the last hours in the city left a bitter taste. I have also worked in this field for many years, such an attitude towards the client would have been intolerable. Maybe if I hadn't understood Spanish it would have been better and I wouldn't have been so affected. It seems that the pandemic has not taught us anything in this field. A simple please wait another 5 minutes would have been much more appreciated. If I would come back, I...
Read moreAh, Taberna Belmonte in Seville, the place where my culinary dreams went to die. The sangria? It bore an uncanny resemblance to pre-packaged supermarket concoctions, complete with cheap wine and fruits that tasted like they'd been pickled in regret.
The beer, meanwhile, committed an unforgivable sin - it was utterly foamless. I mean, who doesn't love the fluffy comfort of beer foam? But Belmonte decided to deprive me of that small joy.
The waiting time was a marvel - it's not often you come across a place where time stands still, literally. I half expected to see a sundial on the table.
The food? An unforgettable experience, and not in a good way. The squids hadn't been cleaned properly, posing a potential safety hazard. Worse, they were semi-raw, a daring culinary choice that failed spectacularly. And the shrimp in garlic sauce? Overcooked to the point of oblivion, with the garlic reduced to charcoal, creating a strikingly bitter aftertaste.
And oh, the toilet. An homage to abstract expressionism, perhaps? A total mess, to say the least.
Taberna Belmonte, you're a truly unique experience - one I'm not in a hurry to repeat. Bravo for redefining my...
