We had just arrived in Lanzarote, dropped bags at our hotel and needed to find somewhere for our twin 2 year olds to have a light lunch. A lot of the restaurants along the promenade appeared to be full main 3 course meals so we were excited when we found this cafe. The lady kindly cleared a table for us and my daughter had just climbed out of her pushchair on to the chair. The lady came over and told my daughter to remove her shoes if she wants to sit like that. 1) she wouldn't sit like that, we wouldn't let her and she too has good manners 2) she was just repositioning herself. My daughter looked upset/confused (as were we) but we agreed she'd remove her shoes. She ended up not wanting her shoes off so sat back in the buggy with her twin brother. Because she'd sat back in her buggy, (due to this bizarre no shoe nonsense), her water drinks bottle that was initially in her buggy I had to move to the table (momentarily) so she could move back. The lady at that very moment -of course no coincidence- rushed over and said is that the kids water as we can't drink it. I said it was removed it and put it back in the buggy between my twins. We ordered a tuna sandwich and chips and my husband and I ordered a drink each. When we placed our order the reply we got from the lady was "is that all" this was in a dry sarcastic tone. My husband and I weren't hungry, we had just landed in Lanzarote and we were unsure of portion sizes additionally the prices would imply the meals were of decent sizes (especially for 2.y.o's!). The food came out and it was nothing exciting. We had to chase to pay and leave. A disappointing start to our holiday and it's with regret we didn't leave as soon as the no shoe nonsense started. From looking back through reviews this doesn't seem to be an isolated incidence. Made to feel very unwelcome, and if children are not welcome at the cafe this should be made clear via signage rather than rudeness towards...

Short version: Arrogant, condescending, rude, threatening and plain disrespectful behaviour from staff and owner. Negative marks.
Edit: As expected, the owner has proven his stupidity on the internet trying to furnish a reason with false stories. And failing miserably. Failed in Germany and now failing in Spain. What a lowlife and a complete waste of space on planet earth.
Long version: As an establishment (actually a shack), your job is to be respectful towards your customers and serve food. Your job is not to lecture them. The ownerâs/ staffsâ attitude is ridiculous to say the least. Going back at the counter and bad mouthing your guests shows lack of empathy and lack of culture, little did they know the customer understood each and every word. Upon asking what the deal was, rather than accept the mistake and apologise, they turned all defensive and started shouting. They have no idea who they are dealing with. Itâs underscored by the way they respond to reviews by shifting the blame and not use that as constructive feedback to make improvements. Typical attitude of uncultured people who havenât seen the world and think they still live in the tiny village they have come from. The time it took to consume the low quality beverage was less than 2 minutes. There was absolutely no need for being atrocious towards the guests. It clearly made the other guests uncomfortable. These people are really unfortunate, and I pity them. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Sure there are people who want cheap and low quality food. And yes, there is a clientele for this type of business.
But Iâd sincerely appeal to people to give this place...

However, apparently even if you are a paying customer, you are not allowed to drink your own water from your water bottle. The ownerâs husband basically shouted at me: âitâs like bringing your own cake to a restaurantâ. Ironically, I didnât bring my own cake: I paid for the one they actually recommended. I had a sip of water from my water bottle - and for this, got told off and was given a full lecture about how this is a restaurant and I could not bring my own stuff in. Whatâs next? Bag search? No, this is not a restaurant. It is a bog standard caffe with overpriced coffee, and...
