Restaurante Taberna el Gallo Toledo — Restaurant in Toledo

Had two evening meals here and enjoyed them thoroughly. No tapas or pintxos, just hearty raciones. I wanted local game (this is Toledo, Castile & La Mancha) and tried the partridge (excellent) and venison “con queso” (good flavor combination). My wife loved the grilled veggies and enjoyed the shrimp “lollipops” and next night the (flank) steak.

Prices are quite reasonable. Service was very good and helpful even for American tourists. Tasty local wines to go well with the meal (though I never asked for a list).

For a restaurant so close to the massively touristed Plaza Zocodover this was a find. We saw only Spanish speaking locals in spite of English translations of the menus inside and out (perhaps it’s the “What’s Eat?” translation). It also was easy to get quickly seated (in November) when most other places were packed and noisy. Five stars all round from me. As traveller's from New Zealand we haven't yet mastered the Spanish timetable for eating. The siesta gets in the way of our Kiwi hunger timetable. !!! We arrived at the late end of lunch service but where welcomed in and served with a smile. Then came the food from the Menu Del Dia. It was next level delicious. A fresh colourful salad for me and a garlic soup with bread and poached egg immersed to soak up the flavors for my friend Next was the pork stew, tender and flavourful served with unusually cut fries that were well salted, hot and crispy. Desert was an apple flan. All this accompanied by one of the nicest full bodied Vino Blanco's we have tasted while being in Spain. Realizo esta reseña con la esperanza de que el propietario de Taberna el Gallo en Toledo pueda mejorar su atención al cliente, algo que no parece ser muy difícil, ya que el trato por parte de la dirección del lugar es simplemente pésimo, no podría ser peor. Sin embargo, debo destacar que los camareros fueron educados y profesionales en todo momento.

Realizamos una reserva y al llegar nos sentaron a cuatro personas en una mesa de tan solo setenta centímetros por otros setenta centímetros. Era imposible colocar los servicios de manera adecuada, por lo que solicitamos que nos unieran dos mesas, pero nuestra petición fue rechazada. Pedimos tres raciones y les pedimos que nos las sirvieran de una en una, ya que literalmente no cabían en la mesa. Sorprendentemente, en cuestión de minutos nos trajeron las otras dos raciones, sin tener en cuenta nuestras indicaciones. Les explicamos que no cabían, incluso tuvimos que dejar el pan en una silla. Se llevaron los platos y al cabo de unos segundos, otro camarero vino a decirnos que si no los poníamos en la mesa, se enfriarían.

Creo sinceramente que mejorar es algo muy fácil de lograr para este restaurante. Es comprensible que estuviera vacío, ya que el trato recibido por parte de la dirección no invita a volver. Espero que tomen en cuenta estas críticas constructivas y trabajen en mejorar la experiencia de sus clientes. La relación calidad-precio es muy mala, lo cual desanima aún más a los potenciales comensales. No recomendaría este...
