Hi Life Steak House — Restaurant in Yaiza

Ok, nearly forgot to write this one up.. but remembered as it was too good not to let people know about. Last evening of holiday, looking for easy local option, kids, having tired of octopus and clams, 😝 wanted a ‘kids meal’ nuggets etc… I’ll say this, don’t be put off by the menu… a huge sheet selling things like ‘heart attack wrap’ etc… This made me wobble but the restaurant was busy and the food coming out looked great. Very polite/attentive staff came and took our order. We were sat on the veranda with a lovely view of the sedate harbour. The kids menus were all well made, from scratch and a measured size. My daughters burger was gooood… I went for the ribs, I just felt like it, despite it being simple BBQ sauce. It was delicious. My partner chose the ‘Chefs Cod’ not worrying that it was a meat-centric menu.. It was a massive, perfectly cooked piece of well seasoned fresh fish. Honestly the best seafood of the holiday. Puddings were allowed (last day of holiday) and the chocolate Madness cake and biscoff cheesecake were great. Made in-house, it was some seriously good pudding. All in, well priced, nice staff and location, couldn’t fault it outside...

We visited for dinner last night, the restaurant itself is right on the marina front with a nice view. Inside the restaurant is very nice & clean. We ordered the fish croquettes to share to start & the mix grill to share for our main. The fish croquettes came out & on biting in to them they weren’t just cold but still frozen in the middle. We told the waiter who apologised & changed them immediately, although I wish I had have went with my gut & just cancelled the rest of the meal there & then. They came out again & yes they were piping hot but no flavour whatsoever. The Mixed Grill came next although it looked decent but all the meat was overcooked to how we’d asked. It came with fries & Canarian potatoes which the potatoes were just like boiled potatoes. One of the steaks was ok but the second was tough as old boots & left most of it, the chicken left a pool of water on the plate & everything was flavourless, the ribs were soft but again no flavour. At €85 for the meal with a beer & glass of sangria it was an expensive disappointing meal. The staff were friendly but after the starter was sent back we never saw them again...

Sadly, we walked away without trying any food. After being given a table, we waited 15 minutes before anyone took our drinks order. At that point, we asked if we could give our food order and we're told no, as someone else took the food orders. So we waited.. another 10 minutes, and asked a different member of staff, who again said she couldn't take the food order. 5 minutes later, our drinks were brought to us so we asked that waiter if he could take our food order... and guess what? No, he couldn't. We didn't accept the drinks, and insisted we wanted to place our food order. Guess what? The original waitress came to take it and said there was a 30 minutes wait for food. Whilst ordinarily that would have been OK, it would have meant an hour from being seated to finally getting our food. Other customers also experienced the same issues. Everything seemed chaotic. The menu looks good and certainly on the expensive side for the marina, meaning that the service would need to be excellent,...
