Took the kids first time after two years for a buffet since they were pestering to go for one .. went many years ago for a buffet here.
The taste and variety of the dinner buffet was good. Our favorite sushi and sashimi being there was key. The sushi was good but not great ans generic (no special types). the wasabi the commercial type very strong.
The meats were good and quite taste but some seems a bit rare (undercooked) so depending on your preference this may not be your type. I like the meet to be a bit cooked so did not enjoy it as much.
The lamb kebab was very fatty and rather raw and had to chew it a lot before you I could swallow it. The meat kebab was better but tad raw to my liking. The taste was good and juicy. The time to get it to the table was about 15mins.
The shawarma was a disappointment as it was rather tasteless compared to what I had had at Arabian Knights.
They has a range of local food which I have on a daily basis so I skipped so can't comment.
They also had many salads again I did not try to comment.
The soup I has a bit later and found that they did not heat it so it had gone cold, so sloppy stuff chef! The soup had lots of meat and had a good taste but I for one don't like to have soups cold. My in laws who had it earlier said it was nice when it was piping hot.
The deserts range from terrible to excellent. The date cake was hard and terrible. The cookies were excellent crunchy , chewy and full of nuts.
The blueberry tart was great and stood out as one of the better deserts.. the warm apple crumble another nice one.
The ice cream was melted another no no . It could not be served properly. The fruit tarts were nice. The kiss my wife and kids said were nothing special. Sadly no macaroons .. I had been hoping they would have it as their coffee shop used to make a good one.
Overall they had a range of dessert including traditional foods like wattalapam, fruit platter etc
if you are a Muslim you may find a few issues. One most of the sauces for the special meets were with red wine so that meant that's out.. in my case without the sauce the lamp slices were not great.
The other was that the pork was right next to the chicken and very easy for spoons to be mixed.. usually not something we have seen with cinnamon before so they need to work on being more multi cultural.
Service was slow and lacking in Sri Lankan bubbly ness .. you had to remind them twice to get water .. and they seem heavily understaffed. Only two covering about 15 tables.
Overall good and definitely worth the money if you are a good buffet eater ... But my wife who had gone to Cinnamon Grand plates a week before said their buffet was a bit better .. for nearly the...
Read moreMe and few of my colleagues went to a weekday lunch as one of our regular lunch outs. I have been here for couple of times before for a business lunch and a casual dinner but both didn't impress me very much at that time. So my expectations were not that high. The hotel itself looked very welcoming and the atmosphere was very nice. The reception at the entrance to the restaurant was nice and warm and the lady there escorted us to our reserved table. The food was very good, but the spread is bit limited in some aspects when you compare it To other similar places. But still it was good for us and better than what I have expected.
I found the soups were good. And they had a generous collection of dinner rolls along with various types of cheese. There were various types of salads and freshly cut vegetables with various sauces. Also there were cold sea food for starters.
One of the great things about the buffet was the amount of Japanese food they had. I loved the various types of Sashimi (They had Nigri too) and Sushi they had. Only complain I have is that they have only chopsticks to get those yummy food on to your plate and I am really bad at them :( But it was great. No major buffets in Colombo five star hotels offer this much of yummy Japanese food except for Cinnamon Grand.
There were surprisingly good options for the main course belonging to few different cuisines. In the action station they had baked crab and it was awesome. They also had grilled salmon which is very tasty and it was the first time that I have seen them in a buffet. The roasted pork was not that great. It was dry and too sweet.
The dessert department also carried lots of options raging from fruits to all the sweetness you could think of.
The staff was very helpful and prompt. Overall we had a...

Location : At Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.
The Hotel has more than enough parking including valet parking.
Ambience : On to the left as you enter through the main door. Plush dining area set up for fine dining.
Service : Given it is a 4/5 star hotel, the service was above par except for one waiter not knowing much about the menu.
The food took more than a while to arrive though.
Food : Ordered BBQ tender chicken as starters, Nasigoreng and grilled tiger prawns (it goes as some jerked prawns on the menu đ¤Ž) as mains and two mocktails; little bit of everything and muscle hunk.
The waiter who took the order was pretty clear as to what we get for BBQ chicken. Despite that we went with it, and yes it was a disappointment. You get five strips of bbq chicken bathed in bbq sauce with truck loads of plain bland lettuce. The chicken tasted good or rather wasnât sure if it was the chicken or the sauce which was good.
Grilled tiger prawns comes with mashed potatoes which tasted good. Prawn werenât grilled enough and also was bland! Didnât have any seasoning at all.
The Nasi was quite decent. Or may be since the other two dishes were a disappointment, the mind tried to justify the Nasi. đ¤ˇââ comes with a piece of chicken, two satays and a jumbo prawn.
The two mocktails were of course brilliant. Both the juices were pretty good. âLittle bit of everythingâ is fruity and Muscle Hunk gives a strong/soda-ish taste because of the redbull
VFM : Not worth for the exorbitant price charged.
