The Emperor's Den — Restaurant in Colombo

The first impression was bad since the restaurant was full of cigarette smoke as we walked in. We ordered appetizers and soup for starters and food was below average for a fine dining restaurant. Then mains took sometime to deliver and the food was again disappointing. Most dishes were way over priced and not worth the money we spent. Staff was definitely under trained and do not know how to take care of the customers. Most of the time we have to go after them and flag them down. The gentleman next to my table had to walk downstairs to get hold of a waiter. Simple things like water was not served until we were done with all the meals. Appetizer and soup bowls were lying on the table way after we consumed the food. All plates were still sitting on the table when the mains arrived, when the waiter realized that they were not cleared earlier. Most food was blank and lacked taste, therefore we asked for some Chilli paste or hot oil. The waiter’s response was that they are out of stocks today. I couldn’t believe a Sri Lankan Chinese restaurant without any Chilli paste or hot sauce. We also wanted to order a drinks when we arrived and asked for wine or cocktails menu, and the waiter said they only serve beer and wine. However, we saw them serving hard alcohol (Gin and Scotch) to the gentlemen at next table. We also noticed a full bar was on display when we walked in. So I am not sure what was that all about. This would have been a five star review if not of the worst service they provided.I made a reservation for dinner and when arrived no one was there to assist or to check the reservation.However they gave us a vacant table saying no reservation made.From the time we ordered it took more than 1.45 mins to receive the mains and still it was half of what we ordered.After complaining two times we got the rest of the order but the previously served dishes were cold including the rice. This place can do much better with trained staff and a responsible manager.
