Berzelius Bar & Matsal — Restaurant in Göteborgs Stad

We stopped by Berzelius Bar & Matsal in Gothenburg on a hot day, arriving right as they opened, and grabbed a table outside. Great choice—lovely spot to sit and relax in the sun.

The staff were super friendly and helpful, and as a group from the UK, we had no issues at all with the language. Service was smooth, and drinks came out well-prepared and promptly.

When it came to the food—wow. Five out of six of us went for the Swedish meatballs, and not a single bite was left on any of the plates. The mash was light, creamy, and full of flavour, and the lingonberries added just the right touch of tart sweetness to balance everything out. It was classic comfort food done to perfection.

Very disappointing experience. We ordered two glasses of recommended rose Prosecco as on the board, but received Prosecco. We understood this a few minutes later after a few sips and asked the waitress. But she thinks we were rude and refused to change and disappeared. Waited for another 10 minutes and asked another waiter, same answer, believed we were rude and refused to exchange to the correct order. He offers free snacks and we said no. Terrible front staff. The woman that was meant to seat us at a table didn’t welcome me at all and when I asked if there would be any place for me and my partner to sit down with 2 suitcases she just told me off stating how busy it is and that it probably wouldn’t be possible. She stared at me blankly and just wanted to move on to the next customer in the que. have never been so neglected as a customer before.
