With so many good Vietnamese restaurants in Gothenburg, it’s a well competed field. Duy-Tan at Kvilletorget has been around for a while and that’s something you can feel. The place is a bit tired, but the wholesome smiles of the staff try to make up for that. In terms of food, however, options are limited. Few dishes, mostly not Vietnamese such as a Red Curry, are found for vegans. If you do go for Vietnamese flavours, such as Bun Chay, you get a bit of an interesting composition with cashews instead of peanuts and a lack of fresh herbs. Topped with some cheap spring rolls, but the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. It’s not bad, by any means, and cheap as well with 119 SEK, but it’s not really what you want from a Vietnamese restaurant. Alright is the best expression I can come up with. I can see myself come again, but more if I am hungry and not really picky. Duy-Tan does this quite adequately, and I guess that’s one achievement in...
Read moreOne of my friends recommended this place so I went here with him and another friend. I was the first one to arrive, which never happens, I did not really know what to do. So I went sightseeing, to see what little this area had to offer. Anyways, I lost track of space and time and walked a bit too far, so my friends ended up waiting for me at the restaurant.
I arrived and sat down, they gave me the menu but I did not need it. I already knew what I wanted. The one and only Bun Bo Hue. So I went ahead and ordered three bowls for me and my friends, with what little Vietnamese I know.
Then, the Bun Bo Hue was served. It was great. It was spicy but not too much, but just enough to make me stop in my tracks. Even if it was a bit spicy the broth was amazing. This is how it should taste, it was real proper.
The water was great and paired very well with the spiciness of the bowl.
Big thanks to the staff and I will...
Read moreThis is my favorite restaurant in Gothenburg; considering all cuisines. It is neither the fanciest nor the most happening restaurant I've visited but the only restaurant that fills me with warmth, just at the thought of it.
Duy-Tan is all about its food; nothing more, nothing less. I'd go so far as to call this place a 'Temple' for food.
Please do yourselves a favour and try the Banh Xeo. Visit them preferably when it's not crowded, as this place can get over crowded for lunch on weekdays and then the food just isn't as great as it's in the evenings or on weekends. Also, make sure to ask the staff on how to eat this dish the right way, or at least watch a video on it and enjoy it the way it was meant...
