The English names of the dishes make absolutely no sense but I am sold by the food. Super nice service. Clean, modern restaurant. Reservations recommended if visiting on Fridays or Saturdays.
Have returned countless times now and the experience is still good.
🔸️Fried Banana and Vanilla Ice Cream (🍌) 👍👍👍👍👍 Delicious!!! The chef used the right batter which kept the fried banana sweet and moist on the inside and the bite crunchy on the outside. Dish came with 2 pieces of fried bananas and 2 scoops of ice-cream.
🔸️ Yan An Sunset (尖椒肥肠🐷) 👍👍👍👍👍 Unfortunately, this dish is no longer on the menu but can be ordered on special request.
This dish of stir-fry pig's intestines is a mastery. It's not something for everyone but the chef has made this dish taste accessible and to such it prepared with skill is already hard in Asia.
The intestines are very clean, fresh and have an excellent bite as they have been lightly fried before being stir-fried in a Sichuan hot and spicy sauce with red onions, spring onions and some vegetables. The sauce is oyster sauce savoury and very appetising with steamed white rice. Generous portion.
🔸️ Kai Warrior Beef (酱香牛肉 🐮) 👍👍👍👍👍 Chilled braised beef in five spice in preseved chilli bean oil.
A delightful cold dish of appetising thinly sliced beef. Somewhat like jerky but much more tender and delicious. Can't stop eating this.
🔸️ China Red Sea (水煮鱼🐟) 👍👍👍👍 Thick, tender white fish in Sichuan broth. The chef has toned down the firey chilli heat of the dish which makes it very enjoyable without having suffer the burn in mouth and stomach.
The broth is flavourful and almost drinkable in small quantities like a soup. I liked that there is a light use of Chinese cabbage instead of a mountainful of beansprouts sometimes (over)used in the dish. Sufficient portions that feeds 2-3 easily when accompanied by other dishes.
🔸️ SILK ROAD LAMB (孜然羊肉 🐑) 👍👍👍 Lightly spiced lamb pieces with cumin stir-fried with peppers. Fragrant dish, generous amounts of lamb.
🔸️ Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (麻婆豆腐 🍛) 👍👍👍 This (Ma Po Tofu) dish has soft tofu in a slightly spicy meat sauce. The tofu absorbed the sauce well and is savoury. The dish could do with more meat.
🔸️ Steamed Rice 🍚 👍👍👍 A bit clumpy instead of well separated whole grains but good enough.
🔸️ Wangs Homemade Noodles (红烧牛肉面 🍜) 👍👍👍 A big bowl of ramen topped generously with thinly sliced braised beef and vegetables in a rich broth.
Hearty and fills a hungry stomach easy. Enriched with lard, this dish is tasty but oily.
🔸️ Mei Cai Pork (梅菜扣肉 🐖) 👍👍 A Chinese classic of slow cooked pork belly with dried Chinese mustard served with gua bao (pork belly bun). The vegetable and pork here are tasty but too dry and hard. The dish has not been stewed long enough to deliver that signature melt in the mouth taste.
