We have been coming to Güntherska for many years, and it has truly become a special part of our visits to Uppsala. This bakery is a historic institution in Uppsala.
The pastries are always fresh and tasty, especially the ones with berries like Hallondröm, and there is clearly great care put into each one. The espresso and cappuccino are also outstanding and pair beautifully with the delectable pastries.
We especially love coming here during the Christmas season, when we really enjoy the saffranssockerbullar and saffronbullar. These seasonal treats add a wonderfully festive touch to the experience.
The decor is historic and classic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere both inside and out. The outdoor seating is a real treat, especially in winter. It has direct view of Fyrisån and powerful heaters, making it both cozy and comfortable and a great place to people watch.
The staff are always friendly, attentive, and super efficient, which makes each visit even more enjoyable. Coffee drinks are made to order and take a few moments, so you get a handy buzzer puck to know when your drink is ready.
Overall, this is a place we always look forward to returning to, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for delicious pastries, a beautiful setting, and welcoming...
Read moreNo flaws except for the place being too full and hard to find an empty seat 😅 which is a great sign to show that many people like this place!
There are both outdoor and indoor area, plenty of seating options with different views. With the outdoor seating area, you’ll get a view of the river.
I tried their morotskaka and it tasted good, quite unique compared to other places. It tasted “premium”. Given the price, I would say it makes sense. The price is a bit more expensive than some other cafes around. If you dine in, it is even more expensive, BUT you will get free flow tap water. They provide glass for the tap water. I ordered tea and they provide unlimited hot water refill as well. Same goes for coffee.
The ambience is cozy, but very loud as this place is always busy. But people come and go quite fast as well. Depending on your preference, I would say it’s not that suitable for working with your laptop here. For reading, still okay, I guess.
I came here by myself, and there was a lady sitting by herself next to me and she said this place is the best in this area!
All the staff I interacted with were polite, friendly, and helpful.
With the slightly more expensive price range, I would say it’s worth it! Definitely...
Read moreA very pricey and popular café with homemade pastries, ice-cream, cakes and food. It is very delicious. You can tell all the things they make is freshly baked and done by them. Their cakes are absolutely amazing albeit expensive. I can also recommend their ice-cream, especially the fruity ones. They are so intense in flavour. Their lunch options are few and very expensive (shrimp salad cost about 170kr) but delicious. They have lunch sandwiches, sallads and a home-made burger. I think the coffee was included in the price, if I recall
This place is very popular so it can be very crowded. It's not unusual for it to have a queue that runs all the way outside, especially during lunch hour, weekends, sunny days (the ice-cream) and on special bakery-days (Semla-day, Cinnamon Bun-day etc). They have seats outside as well. If you don't want there to be a queue, you need to go on off-hour (before or after lunch) or on weekdays.
If you only want to buy bread or full cakes to take with you, it's better to go to their other shop that is right by the corner. It has more cakes and bread options as well as a smaller queue. It doesn't have a serving...
