Could have been a lovely experience. This cafe is near to the Bear Pits and we popped in for a coffee one warm sunny afternoon in July 2018 while spending the day in Bern. The outdoor seating area is beautiful with shade and umbrellas and ivy draping over the wall. Birds were chirping and it had a nice relaxed vibe, it was fairly quiet. On taking our order, a very rude waitperson (young man) made a very cheeky comment to one of our party, who not being a coffee drinker had asked for a 'mocha coffee,' which is a chocolate flavoured variant of a caffe latte. (It does have espresso in it) The rest of us had ordered flat whites. The waiter condescendingly said ' do you think you are at Starbucks'. He had a very arrogant manner and clearly thought he should have been serving at The Ritz in London. We should have left immediately but we stayed as our friend, who was now clearly embarrassed did not want to make a fuss. As I say, it could have been a very nice experience but was ruined by an idiot of a waitperson with no manners or the faintest idea of delivering good...
Read moreGreat stuff!! Staff was terrific, I was offered a Swiss Pinot Noir that was excellent, (Had to breathe a bit or bland ain't the word for it) started was Cold Pea soup, (Wasn't thrilled) but it set me up for an amazing half cheese half prosciutto appetizer that was terrific, entree was Steak Tartare that had a really spicy dot and a shot of Scotish Whiskey, (Sorry but I'm a fellow Scotsman, and while it sounds odd it really worked) and finished with a nice Tiramisu and Cappuccino. (Sorry for the CAPS but I really like Tiramisu) Many like large portions and you won't get'em here. Staff couldn't have been nicer!! Sorry to sound like an advertisement but I really liked this place! Priced more than most but not for what I got and especially for unique Wines. I've been all over the World and without question this is one of my favorites of all!! My French is bad, my German is even worse yet had no trouble. Please take my advice because this place is truly Great. Yours...
Read moreExceptional dinner. We were expecting good… but when we tasted their complimentary gazpacho which probably the best I’ve ever had we had to adjust expectations.
They suggested whisky and adding a bit more spice with their beef tartare. What a combination! Again, probably the best I’ve had.
The entrecôte to share with a huge ice cream scoop of herb butter was also delicious - you could ask for more veg to accompany free of charge (we had celeriac and rosemary potatoes)
Throughout we tried a range of red wines, as well as their rose which was sublime. As was the service - we were in two minds as to whether to have a glass of their dessert red wine - so they gave us a sample instead. Do try this with dessert if you go! (Barolo Chinato)
Overall. A real delight, surpassed expectations, one of the best...
