Tonight we dined at Awash, a charming new addition to the neighborhood for the first- but most certainly not the last. We shared a plate of fried lentil-stuffed pastry very similar in form to Samosas for our entrée. We both wanted more-indeed i could have very hallway consumed an entire plate of them. They were deliciously seasoned, crispy on the outside with a rich and savory filling despite being vegetarian. And they arrive with a little pot of intriguing green sauce, bursting with freshness and intense heat. My tongue tingled and my eyes watered and the mild pain was a delightful sensation. We both ordered the Degustation platter for the main course (minimum of 2 people) . A variety of meat, chicken, lentil, and vegetable dishes were generously heaped on an extra large injera for two. The lamb, beef, and yellow lentil dishes were outstanding, though everything else was also tasty. The service was efficient and friendly and given that dinner for two with 2 courses, wine and sparkling water almost never runs less than 100chf in Geneva, even at a Pizzaria, the total bill ended up easy on the wallet (87chf).

Read moreReally great Ethiopian food and customer service. We ordered the sampler vegetarian menu and appetizer sambusa. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the misir wat and the Ethiopian salad👍, as well as the Arenagade gomen. The host had no specialty non alcoholic drinks, but made us a yummy non alcoholic off the menu mango ginger drink as well.
Food came out quickly. Very colorful. Besides the sampler menu items, beets were also provided to enhance the color.
The sambusas were superb. Great flavor without sauce but the yummy green chili sauce further enhanced their flavors and was not too spicy. They also are not exactly like Indian samosas as they had lentils vs potatoes internally.
The injera was ready good but my husband has Irritable bowel syndrome and somehow the wheat/ Teff flour combo (certain wheat combos give him the reaction) gave him the runs… might suggest another combo for IBS/ wheat intolerant people. I had no issues and really enjoyed the injera.
Kind of pricey but we felt it was well spent or justified for the customer service and delicious food. Would highly reccomend and...
Read moreWe found this restaurant after a visit to the Botanical Garden and the Science Historical Museum. It was just after Christmas, freezing cold and we were eager to get into some warmth and found Awash on google map.
The service was friendly, and that really help as it was our first encounter in an Ethiopian restaurant. A young man, presumedly the owner came and helped us with the menu. Little piles of meats were served among piles of salads and vegetables and yogurt/cottage cheese in two round trays, to be shared among the 6 of us. We ate with our fingers, tearing off pieces of the pancake-like soft bread, as carriers for the meat and vegetables. Food was very good, and the coffee was excellent. It was an interesting cultural exposure of sort for all our us, including my...
