If your in Geneva and you are looking for great food in a great portion for a great price, Chez Ma Cousine is the place to go.
Personally, I would recommend going with the roast chicken (comes with potato wedges and salad). The Roast Chicken char (the black exterior on the skin of the chicken) is on par with some of the best Portuguese chicken I’ve eaten. Despite this, the interior of the chicken errs towards the side of dryness (indicating the chicken has been over-baked). So, I rate the chicken a 7/10. Moving to the complimentary sides, the salad was very well dressed and the sliced lettuce tasted as if it was fresh. The wedges were slightly crispy, had no starchy taste (which means they were perfectly baked) yet they were under seasoned. Therefore, I rate the sides 7/10.
For desert, I chose the Crème Brûlée as its one of my favourite deserts. The toffee on the exterior was very well synthesised (had a very distinctive crackle). However, I was quite disappointed with the heterogenous temperature of the Crème Brûlée; specifically, the exterior was very warm and the interior was cold - such a desert should be served at a uniform temperature (oftenly served warm).
Strikingly, the texture of the Crème Brûlée was similar to that of a Flan (this indicates overcoagulation).
Despite these flaws, the service at Chez Ma Cousine was on par with some higher-end restaurants and therefore, I award it...
Read moreCame here early lunch (around 12pm) and i thank the heavens we got there early! We were able to be seated immediately but after just 10 minutes, the line was already crazy outside! Make sure to come here early if you ever dine here.
This meal made my whole trip to Geneva that much more worth it! The meal felt like a warm hug, a comforting meal your grandma prepared after a hard day's work 💖 they only literally serve chicken, fries and salad in this restaurant! And honestly that's all you'll ever need! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the salad was surprisingly good too. I preferred having the salad with my chicken than the fries. Everything is made in house and i felt a lot of heart into it
The service was amazing despite the place being completely packed. We were served promptly and all our requests were met. They also allowed our three dogs inside 💖
My only problem about this whole experience is I wish i had eaten in this restaurant more than one time. If you're ever in Geneva, do yourself a favor and try this...
Read moreThe chicken is good, always has been (since 14 years ago I lived here), but now you need to add potatoes and salad apart, which wasn't the case before. As the potatoes and salad are served in one plate (all together) the quantities are difficult to assess... They forgot 1 chicken that we have to re-order, but then all the portions of potatoes were already counted? because they didn't bring more... (but they were on the bill). Some of the waitresses are quite rude, referring to the menu in a dismissive way when you ask about the sauces, they gossip about you, very obvious, pointing and looking at your table when you tell them about the forgotten water (we got the glasses but no water, almost finished the meal without it!) At the end, when asked for the bill and to pay by card, the card machine was left on our table, should I rip the ticket myself? A bit...
