Wirtshaus Galliker — Restaurant in Lucerne

5/5 food with 1/5 service. This is the best restaurant in Lucerne if you are looking for authentic Swiss food, and second place isn't even close. But if you are an American, they really don't want your time, business, money, or service. Don't be afraid to go to the cash register and order your beer up, don't be afraid to go to the register and order your food. Don't let the terrible service keep you from eating some of the best food in the country. They won't shoot you, and it's still one of the best meals of my life regardless of whatever spit they did or didn't put in it. There's a schnitzel with cognac (Rahmschnitzel vom kalbnierstuck) and I am becoming hungry just editing the photos of it. The brandied pear with cinnamon ice-cream is worth the pain of eating it on top of your generous portions. This place is, in my opinion, the world record holder on quality gap between how amazingly good the food is, and how amazingly indifferent to me the waitstaff were. Do it anyway. And fingers crossed you get treated better...

Was lucky to be able to reserve for dinner on the day I reached Lucerne. You can tell its well loved by the locals as the place gets crowded very fast by the time its 6.30pm.

Really love the quaint and elegant place, the architecture and ambiance makes up half of the lovely dining experience.

Was served by a very friendly and nice staff by the name of Silvana who is from Brazil! She made us feel at home very immediately.

The food is outstanding, loved the mushrooms in pastry shell, the cream sauce is just so top notch. Pork sausage in onion sauce is salty but I can taste the fragrance of the cameralised onions which goes really well with the rosti. The pork schnitzel is huge! And like what most people say, the fries are excellent.

A pity we don't take beef as the rosti with veal and the Pot Au Feu comes highly recommended.

As recommended by Silvana, the Swiss white Petite Arvine is excellent so please have a bottle to go with your dishes when you visit.

It's funny as I found this place as I asked. Chat GPT to give me the best restaurant in town for great food but not a fancy atmosphere and this was the top of the list. I read a bit about it and decided to go. She does a great, authentic Swiss restaurant. In fact, there were really not many tourists there and there was a lot of locals there showing that this is a good place for them as well. The food was really good and honestly top notch. The staff was super friendly even though English is not their forte and they worked really hard to make sure we were happy. We even had some of the locals come up to us and ask if we're doing good and how we're liking the city. As a few older buildings would be in Europe, the place really doesn't have air conditioning and doesn't have any air movement. So on really hot days as we were, it was a bit stifling after a number of people started piling in. We were super happy we found this place and we left...
