The Ammos is a gem in Lucerne. The location can’t be better. The Reuss river with its pure and clear water nearly flows under your feet and you feel like being on a cruise. The decor matches the beautiful colour of the river and supports the cruise feeling. It is modern and classic. The service is exceptional. The owner is friendly, talkable, funny and the warm hospitality in person. His team is dedicated and supportive. They know what to offer and have good explanation for all their dishes, portions and procedures on how and what to eat in the Greek culture. The food is a symphony of taste. I can recommend the Dip-Garden for undecided as a starter (Meze). The Melisanosalàta dip has a perfectly roasted and smoky eggplant flavour and also the famous Tsatzìki is a feast. The traditional Greek Salad (Choriàtiki) comes with a good amount of Feta Cheese which can also be ordered as a vegan option. Another highlight of our Meze we had are the Dolmadàkia (rice stuffed vine leaves). Almost full after three Meze for two persons we anyway still ordered the all-famous Souvlàki. Also, because the owner’s cute little daughter mentioned that their French Fries are the best in the world. She is right! The fries are a mix of Crisps and French Fries. Round in shape and so tasty. Although being quite full after the Meze we finished the Souvlàki easily thanks to the mouth-watering taste of the whole dish which doesn’t let you stop eating. Finally, the desert couldn’t be left out due to the great choice. We wanted to order almost every desert but had to make a good and smart choice since we became very full after the Meze and Souvlàki. We followed the advice of the owner and took his favourite Baklavàs and the Lefkò Mosaikò. We felt like in Greek heaven and are coming back soon for more of this exceptional service, food...
Read moreIf I could I'd rate this 3.5 stars, I've read through the other reviews and - as a Greek myself I'm not sure that it is true that they 'nailed' the food. The service is excellent and attentive and the room is comfortable, the Greek music was nice and the volume level perfect and our wine delicious. Unfortunately the food - not that great in my opinion, We ordered eight dishes and the stand-out for me was the grilled octopus - brilliantly cooked and nicely presented. The zucchini cheese burger patties had so much cheese in them they were more like fried fondue with no flavor other than cheese, the kleftico - well, simply wasn't kleftico, It was small pieces of lamb with new potatoes, red, green and yellow bell pepper and carrots, (All vegetables very undercooked) with a smattering of herbs presented in a tied paper bag. But as I understand it Kleftico is, large chunks of tender lamb, marinated in garlic, lemon and olive oil with long slivers of potato and tons of oregano roasted for many hours in a clay oven, Or sealed clay pot if no clay oven is available. The other dishes we tried had twists and flourishes and ingredients that were not required, Greek food has amazing layers of flavor when traditional recipes are followed and the food is seasoned correctly. Overall - had the meal not been is Switzerland I would have been less likely to be so offended by the food, however at these extortionate prices I think the least restaurant owners can do is try their hardest to be as authentic...
Read moreI experienced clear bias at this restaurant. When I asked for a table, an employee refused to seat me unless I looked at the menu first. I told her I was already familiar with it, but she insisted again in a tough voice. Meanwhile, I observed that German-speaking guests were seated immediately without being asked the same thing.
It became clear that all English-speaking guests were being asked to check the menu before being allowed to sit, while German-speaking customers were not. I decided to stay and eat anyway, hoping it was a misunderstanding.
After my meal, I approached the employee quietly to ask about the unequal treatment and suggested we speak calmly. Instead, she talked so loudly. When I asked if she could lower her tone so we could resolve the issue respectfully, she replied, “It’s my voice, and if you don’t like it, then don’t listen.”
I then waited to speak to the manager, expecting a more professional approach. Unfortunately, he also spoke to me loudly and dismissively in front of other guests, which was embarrassing and deeply disappointing. I left feeling unwelcome and disrespected. No guest should be treated differently based on the...
