We were so pleased we choose this hotel for our stay in St. Moritz. The location is directly in the center of the upper town in St. Moritz. All the best restaurants are located within a few minutes walking. The staff at the front desk was so accommodating. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite on a corner with lots of windows and plenty of room. Each floor has a different contemporary artist featured (Picasso, Dali, Miro and more).
More about the front desk staff; Chiara was committed to us having the very best experience in St. Moritz. Each day she had a suggested itinerary, based on the weather for us to explore the surrounding mountains. She also made great dinner suggestions (check out my reviews for Dal Mulin and Mulo’s). Most of the restaurants in town are closed on Sundays, so don’t save your favorite for then. There is a wonderful breakfast buffet included with your stay, in the cozy Mono restaurant.
We did not take advantage of the spa facilities, but we did discover the beautiful rooftop patio adjacent to the spa. Should we have had a day of bad weather, I’m sure we would have enjoyed the services. Guests have access to the gym and the indoor hot tub (with a fabulous view). Another wonderful bonus in St. Moritz is that you receive free passes to all of the public transportation when you stay 2 nights, or more in a hotel. This allows free entrance to all of the gondolas, funiculars and in-town buses.
We were there at the end of the summer season and the cross-ventilation was all we needed, there is no air conditioning. One caveat; the hotel is directly across the street from a bell tower, which chimes every 15 minutes. It was a relief to learn that it is silent from 10 pm until 8 am. As with any resort, there will be late-night revelers returning at all hours of the late night, just...
Read moreI would have liked to have given 5 stars but there were two issues.|Firstly though, the hotel is well located, our room was very spacious & comfortable. It was really clean on arrival & the staff maintained it that way for our stay. All of the amenities were high quality. The breakfast was plentiful, fresh & high quality. So many choices. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on our first night where we enjoyed a delicious meal & the portion size enabled us to share & still no space for dessert. All of the staff right from reception through to the restaurant (both dinner & breakfast) were friendly, attentive & professional. Importantly they all spoke adequate English which makes things so much easier for us non- Europeans. Now for the two issues.|We would have loved to have used the pool/spa facilities but they close at 8:00pm. In midsummer, when it is so pleasurable to take advantage of the long hours of daylight these facilities should be able to be used until 10:00pm or even longer. |The hot water flow in the shower was inconsistent & at times became much too hot. My wife even felt that her back had been burnt. Perhaps it is caused by other rooms in close proximity using water at the same time. If that is the case it should be able to be remedied & it needs to be as it could...
Read moreMy partner and I were skiing in St Moritz in the last week of January. This was our first time at the Monopol and we would not hesitate to stay there again. They sent a car to collect us from the train station upon our arrival and we were offered a complimentary glass of prosecco in the lounge after we checked in. The staff were extremely helpful, very friendly and attentive. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was huge! The housekeeping staff were excellent; as well as tending to the usual room duties during the day, they would also come during the evening whilst we were at dinner in order to turn down the bed and would leave mini Toblerones on our pillows, a lovely little touch. One of the highlights of our stay was the food; most half board ski hotels tend to have buffet-style dinners but this was table service. The food was delicious, prepared to a high standard and easily some of the best hotel food we've ever had on a skiing holiday. The waiters were also friendly and attentive. Breakfast was a combination of cereals, fruits, breads, cold meats and cooked options. The hotel is also very conveniently located in the centre of St Mortiz Dorf, just a few moments walk from the ski bus stop and only slightly further to...
