Big Sigh! Missing my mother's cooking, we opted to go to an "Afghan" restaurant. I must admit, the atmosphere is decorated nicely. I would say one of the nice Afghan restaurants to attend, especially the bathroom ambiance, with cloth towels, fragranced soap, and colorful ceiling lights. However, the food was a big disappointment. The Qabili Palou portion for the price was small. I really didn't like lamb meat, and there were a lot of bones that came along with it. The carrots were not cooked very well and the rice just tasted as if it was colored with food coloring. The mantu was average, and again for the price it is not worth it...only 8 pieces. The chicken breast kebab comes out with fancy skewers, but the taste is average. It was not as juicy as we have had in other restaurants. Oh, and the bolani a complete disaster. It was just bread, the filling very little and it was dry and with no flavor. And the cost for such an small appetizer is 15.50 CHF!!!
The restaurant does not serve "authentic Afghani food"...it it is mainly targeting the Swiss/foreign audience because as an Afghani, I have had wayyyyy better food than tonight. There is no comparison to my mother's kitchen, but we at least we wanted to become nostalgic and have a decent Afghani meal.
Service was another disappointment. The waitresses are mostly young (Swiss) girls, and they were very inefficient. One spilled the drinks on the floor and the other that we asked for an extra plate never brought one to us. They do not ask how is the food or if you need anything else after they bring the food. It is basically in and out.
Again, prices are outrageous for the amount and quality of food that they offer. Not to mention being charged 4CHF per person for tap water, Unbelievable!!
We did not order dessert because first of all Baklavas are not Afghani and second we were not anticipating another disappointment with the Firni, milk pudding.
The menu is again catering towards foreigners and unfortunately we will not be going there again nor taking friends to taste "Afghani" food because this restaurant does not...
Read moreHaving had the pleasure to experience the magic of Afghan Anar, I can wholeheartedly say that this establishment is more than deserving of a full five-star rating. Right from the very first bite, the authentic flavors transport you to the very heart of Afghanistan.
The culinary journey began with an impeccable balance of spices and freshness, echoing the rich history and culture of the region. Every dish was a celebration of traditional Afghan recipes, with a modern twist that appealed to contemporary palates.
But it's not just the food that stands out. The ambiance, with its intricate Afghan decor and the soulful tunes playing in the background, creates an environment where you can't help but feel welcomed and cherished. The staff, too, is worth a mention – courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about their craft.
In an age where dining experiences are often rushed and commercialized, Afghan Anar offers a breath of fresh air. It's a place where food is art, culture, and connection. Whether you're well-acquainted with Afghan cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place promises an unforgettable journey for your taste buds.
I cannot wait to return and delve deeper into their menu. If there's one place that's a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Afghanistan, it's Afghan Anar. Highly...
Read moreWe were entering the restaurant and got a table on the sidewalk. We haven't pre-ordered, so we took it. During our eating, a "gentleman" was walking by, being very angry and cursing the whole time. His overall appearance and demeanor gave me the impression that begging didn't work that well today. I was eating with a friend, and he told me that this is normal in this specific area of Zürich. The table was quite small for all the dishes. The food itself was good. I had a salad that tasted very nice, especially with the pomegranate. I also ordered vegetarian Mantu (Afghan Ravioli) and they were the best. As side-dish I had Naan bread, which didn't taste good in my opinion, compared to Indian restaurants. The texture of the bread was not very soft. As dessert we had an Afghan cream with pistachios, which tasted fantastic. They nailed the dessert here. So in total a nice visit, and I will sure come again, but next time I will sit inside. Prices are...
