Thai cuisine (Thai: อาหารไทย, RTGS: Ahan Thai, pronounced ʔāː.hǎːn tʰāj]) is the national cuisine of Thailand. Balance, detail, and variety are of paramount significance to Thai chefs.
Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components and a spicy edge. Thai chef McDang characterises Thai food as demonstrating "intricacy; attention to detail; texture; color; taste; and the use of ingredients with medicinal benefits, as well as good flavor", as well as care being given to the food's appearance, smell and context.[1]Australian chef David Thompson, an expert on Thai food, observes that unlike many other cuisines,[2]Thai cooking rejects simplicity and is about "the juggling of disparate elements to create a harmonious finish".
In 2017, seven of Thailand's popular dishes appeared on the list of the "World's 50 Most Delicious Foods (Readers' Pick)"— a worldwide online poll of 35,000 people by CNN Travel.[unreliable source?] Thailand had more dishes on the list than any other country. They were: tom yam goong (4th), pad Thai (5th), som tam(6th), massaman curry (10th), green curry (19th), Thai fried rice (24th) and moo nam...
Read moreHonestly, some of the best Thai food I’ve had. Chiang Mai has become our must-visit spot whenever we’re in Zurich.
The buffet-style setup is perfect - lunch is ready to serve, so you pick 1 or 2 meat dishes with steamed rice. We had the cashew chicken and curry chicken. Both were perfectly cooked and the spicing was absolutely on point. Authentic Thai flavours done right.
The pad Thai was already sold out when we arrived - that’s how popular this place is.
The restaurant is very spacious with large tables that are well spread out. Even with about 20 people there, it felt comfortable and relaxed.
Staff are genuinely friendly and walk you through what’s available, pointing out the spicy options. We tried three drinks - Thai mango, lychee, and coconut - all excellent.
The value is incredible. Generous portions at very reasonable prices, especially for Zurich where everything is usually expensive.
This was our second visit and we’ll be back every time we’re in the city....
Read moreWe decided to give it a try , it turned out to be the worst food we had in our 5 day stay . We arrived for a late lunch , the staff were eating theirs on a nearby table , the lady at counter seated us .
We were shown the buffet , it looked SAD at best & there were flies buzzing around the opened food on the counter , so we chose to order ALA carte .
The dishes were loaded with oil , the second picture shows the quantum of chilli they used ,we couldn’t eat their food , we tried and our mouth’s were on fire ( we eat in two other THAI places in JAO PRAYA in Zurich which was excellent & LITTLE THAI in interlarken which was EPIC ) .
Being from the Indian Subcontinent, we are used to spice , but it looks like cook had no idea whatsoever of spice proportions !
We tried to tell the lady at the counter , she seemed uninterested in our concerns and could not speak a word of English !!
I think this PLACE is best AVOIDED !!
