Goodys, a rather new burger joint in the beautiful heart of Zurich that has gained praise for their smashburgers - though I came away with mixed impressions.
The burgers themselves are decent - tried both single and double patty versions. The meat has a good caramelisation but the overall result felt a bit underwhelming, mainly due to limited topping options. It’s the standard for all burgers with pickles, onions and sauces but I would’ve wished an option to add simple classics like salad or tomato.
The fries, cooked in beef tallow, made up for a great depth and flavour - but again the texture let them down. They’re a bit uneven, slightly “spikey”, which for me isn’t the most pleasant mouthfeel. This could absolutely be intentional but from my experience is in most cases a sign of faulty on the restaurant’s end. Also worth mentioning: We found some of the tables to be questionable & oddly long for two people (see fourth picture).
What did stand out though was the staff, everybody was friendly and polite. When asking about one of their sauces they gave a spoon to try. They also assured me of their free offerings for ketchup & mayonnaise. Some people also commented on their prices being too high but considering rent in Zurich & that it’s a short walk from HB I think it’s fine. I might come back to try their truffle burger to reassess my review as it looks more promising but their standard ones did not quite...
Read moreBurger: One of the best Smashburgers I've ever had! The meat was perfectly cooked with a delightful crust, typical of a true Smashburger. The combination of juicy meat, fresh ingredients, and an excellent sauce made this burger an unforgettable experience.
Fries: The fries were also outstanding. They were crispy, well-seasoned, and served hot—exactly how you want them.
Service: The service was extremely friendly and attentive. You felt welcome and well taken care of, which significantly enhanced the overall experience.
Wait Time: Unfortunately, the wait time was extremely long. This was a notable downside that slightly marred the otherwise positive experience. It would be beneficial if they could improve efficiency to reduce wait times.
Price: The price is quite high. Paying over 30 francs for a burger with two patties, fries, and a drink is steep. This might be off-putting for some guests, although the quality of the food partially justifies the cost.
Conclusion: An excellent Smashburger with superb fries and friendly service. The long wait time and high price are factors to consider. However, if you're willing to pay a bit more and wait a bit longer, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic...
Read moreupdate #2: a second visit now was much better. very friendly, swift and professional service. the menu is still complex for three burgers. the fries were good and far less salty. the chili-cheese double burger was delicious yet the meat could be much juicier. overall: 3/5
Such a fantastic location, such an opportunity. Sadly, such bad quality. The menu is apparently not additive toppings (as it says) but mutually exclusive burgers - i watched as the cashier struggled to enter two toppings. Odd, only four choices, how can management mess this up? There were a few people already eating. We were two guests. More than 10 minutes later after a friendly inquiry where our food is, we got the wrong burger & sides. Really? it's a smash burger... Next, the fries are completely inedible over-salted with some industry taste and the burgers are dry, vanishingly thin and small. At this point it is entirely ridiculous to have spent CHF +30 here. Only upside, the lady in service was top professional, friendly and instantly replaced the wrong order.
update #1: i understand. i will come back in a month's time. given things have improved, i will...
