Not For Foodies! Do they even have a chef in the Kitchen at lunch? Wow, what a beautiful restaurant, even in the middle of a torrential rain shower the room is bright and airy, perhaps one of the great restaurant venues in Zurich but what a pity the food is a disgrace, certainly wasted on a venue like this. Originally, I'm told it was the home to a strip club! The food is below average, perhaps a notch below a first class meal on a european airline as all the hot dishes were reheated - I will explain.
I chose an appetiser from the lunch menu Cauliflower and Potato soup followed by Duck with port sauce, mash potato and red cabbage. I asked that the soup be served piping hot, the soup set before me was over salted and tepid, I inserted my finger into the bowl to show the waitress - she was crestfallen. This lady was from Cambodia and frankly she was the best element of the whole experience. Clearly let down by the kitchen she shared a sincere concern and I appreciated that. Then I made a huge mistake, I asked her to replace this with a Caesar Salad (Picture below) it was a shocker, string beans, a shower of red onions, artichokes, large pieces of stale bread, iceberg rather than romain lettuce, planks of parmesan and not an anchovy in sight all of it drowned and swimming in store bought processed salad dressing. I started to wonder did they employ chefs in the joint at all? I spoke to the "Manager" told him things had not started well and that I would appreciate hot food for my main course. Out comes a oven-hot plate with warm not hot mash potatoes, over cooked tepid tough duck, who's skin is not crispy and the fat under rendered with a ok port sauce was it store bought, not sure. Price for this dish was a stratospheric 44 CH. The manager decided to offer me something extra for my troubles, a freebie, he chose.... wait for it .... even more mash served in a side bowl as a gift for the previous temperature issues - it too was tepid. In fact the more I think about it with the exception of the dodgy salad, everything was a reheat. Every thing pre-prepared Was the red cabbage "Nuked" in a microwave? I'm happy to report it was at the correct temperature, and perhaps the best thing served to me. It is time for this restaurant to overhaul the menu, to modernise plating presentation and above all hire a chef worthy of this...
Read moreI came here for Sunday brunch right before they stopped serving and changed to lunch. We were greeted at the door and asked about our reservation. We could also give our jackets directly at the entrance as it was the cloakroom.
We were asked if we wanted brunch or lunch due to the hour we arrived. We all responded brunch and were served the brunch menu. When we sat down, the table was already set for a two course meal with wine glasses and water glasses. There is also a medium selection of wine on the wine menu.
After we ordered, the silverware and glasses that were no longer needed were taken away. The service is quite fast and attentive. When we received our meal, it was presented all together (not in parts like some places where one waiter carries two dishes and the rest of the table waits for their dishes) - this is the correct way it should be done. Thank you for proper attention to detail.
The decoration is very inviting. The high ceilings and light fixtures definitely add to the ambience of the beautiful fixtures and white clothes dining tables. In summer you can always see people sitting outside. The prices for food are decent for Zürich. I honestly was expecting a lot higher prices to match the location and beautiful designed restaurant.
I would come here again for dinner. Thank you for the lovely...
Read moreI made a dinner reservation here for my wife and myself after looking at the photos of the restaurant's interior. At no time during the process of making the reservation was it brought to my attention that dinner would only be served outside. This was the first negative point.
Second, the food was not great. The pasta we ordered was overcooked. The veal we ordered was nothing to shout about either.
Third, the service was passive-aggressive. When we paid, the staff noted that there was no service charge. I got the hint, but as I paid in cash, I wanted to receive the change before I decided on how much to tip. I left a tip on the table, and on my way out after leaving the tip on the table, the staff said "thank YOU" in a manner that was dripping in sarcasm. The staff may have assumed I was not going to tip, but this was surely unacceptable by any standards. To my knowledge, tipping is not obligatory (quite unlike the States). In any case, I did tip, and there is much to be said about the staff treating all his customers with equal respect (without assumption as to whether...
