Vemezza — Restaurant in Zurich

My family and I arrived on an afternoon to stay at the One Motel Zürich. Our room was not ready yet, so we've opted to grab a late lunch. We've found a promising restaurant but unfortunately they were closing until dinner time. We decided to head back towards our hotel when we saw the chalked street menu for Vemezza. It sounded promising, but who knows if it would be good or not. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We decided to go inside and look into what was offered. We were greeted by a very nice lady, who seemed to be the owner. She told us that she had 1 "menu du jour/daily meal" still available but we could still order anything from the menu. We looked at the counter and all of the food looked fresh and well seasoned.

My husband and brother in law opted to share a big sandwich (she only had 2 of her fresh ciabatta bread left, which told me she gets her bread fresh daily). Tomato and red pepper spread with spicy salami, eggplant, zucchini, olive tapenade, humus, and fresh mozzarella...toasted to perfection!

I opted for the meal du jour (ground beef stuffed eggplant, with rice and salad), my sister in law ordered the chicken bowl, one of my niece had an upset stomach from the trip and only wanted some warm pasta with cheese (the owner was kind enough to accommodate this special order), my other niece ordered a "make your own" chicken bowl. We were pleasantly surprised by how good it all was. My meal required a little spiciness to push it over the edge and the owner provided me with a delicious spicy sauce...it was excellent! I also asked if I could get a small slice of the Sujuk salami and she gladly added it to my plate. We all tried each other's dishes and were excited by how good everything turned out to be. We had 5 meals, 7 drinks (one being a corona beer) and the total was about 120 Swiss Franc (+/- $130), which is very reasonable for Zürich prices. We felt good after our meal, well fed and not overstuffed. Not only the food was great but the staff/owners were soooo nice that we plan to visit again before our stay in Zürich ends. We are American travelers on a budget and try to be healthy so we came across this place on our google maps search. It was outstanding! The sandwich was incredible. Both sides of the bread were prepared individually with the ingredients you will love. I have never seen and had a sandwich prepared with so much love and heart than I have this place.
